HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance No. 18497ORDINANCE N0. g 9 AN oRDINANCE CoNCERN.I~VG THE R~QUE~~ED CHANGE OF NAME OF GooDPA5TURE TS~ZAN~ RC}AD The City Counc ~. v ~' the City of Eugene ~ .rods that : The City endeavors to maintain a basic grid system when assign-~ ing addresses along streets and to assign corresponding numbers on parallel blocks on both north south and east-west streets.. then a street runs both northw..south. and east west as Goodpasture Island Road does, the numbers assigned to the east~-west pardon might also apply to north-~sauth portions of the road. Because much of the de- velopment along, Goodpasture zs~land Raab occurred when the properties were still in the County, duplications occurred when addresses were assigned on properties within the City. The post office has re~ueste~ that the name be changed for por- bons of Goodpasture Island Road to eliminate the duplicate addresses, and the Eugene-Springfield Ambulance service, the fire department, r and the Eugene Police department have a~,so expressed their concerns that response time during emergencies could be adversely affected by the duplicate numbers. Considerable de~relopment has occurred along Goodpasture Island Road, and changing the name could result in inconvenience to many of those people. However, the confusan that presently exists must be resolved, and based upon the reco~mendations of the Planning Commis sion, and the testimony before that Co~nm.ssion and this Council, it appears that the confusion can be eliminated by: ~a} retaining the name of Goodpasture Island Road far the entire street extending from ordinance -- 1 1%'f97 Valley River Drive to Norkenzie Road; and ~~~ that address numbers be modified on that portion of Goodpasture ~s~,and Road between Valley River Drive and Delta ~iighway only. Notice of a public hearing to be held on the loth day of Sep- tember, 1979, at the Council Chambers, C~,ty Hall, at ?:3o p.m, of said day, was du~.y published in the Eugene Register Guard, a news- paper of general circulation within the City, at least once during the week immediately preceding the hearing. NOS, THEREFQ~E , THE CITY GF EUGENE DOES GRDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The name and designation o~ Goodpasture Island Raad is hereby retained far the entire s~~eet extending from Valley River Drive to Norkenzie Road. That address numbers be modified on that portion of Goodpasture Island Road between~Valley River Drive and Delta Highway. Section ~. The City Manager sha11 cause the appropriate re- numbering to be effected as provided in Section ~. above.. Section ~3. That certified copies o~ this ordinance shah, be filed with the Lane County Clerk., the Lane County Assessor, and the Lane County Surveyor. Section 4. That the~~natters ~ont~,ned herein concern the public safety and welfare and~there~ore, an emergency is hereby declared to exist, and this ordinance shall beco~e e,~fec~ive immediately upon its passage by the City Count%l and approval by .the Mayor.
