HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance No. 18733ORDINANCE NO. p 3 3 AN ORDINANCE REGARDING FIRE AND AMBULANCE SERVICES IN THE CITY OF EUGENE; AMENDING SECTION 2.625 OF THE EUGENE CGDE, 1971; REPEALING SECTLONS 2.605, 2.610, 2,615 AND 2.620 OF THAT CODE; ADDING A NE~iI~ SECmION 2,644 T4 THAT CODE; AND DECLARING AN EMER- GENCY. THE CITY DF EUGENE DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLO~`S: Section 1,. Thexe is hereby added to the Eugene Code, 1971, a new section to be numbered and provide: 2.604 Fire and Ambulance Services. ~1~. The city shall provide fire suppression and fire prevention and may provide ambulance services. The scope of these services .inside a,nd outside the city limits are to be established annually by the adopted budget of the city and or- ganized as directed by the city manager. X23 Employes in position classifications determined by the city manager shall ha~re authority to act as a city police officer for purposes, of fire suppression and fire pre- vention, Section 2. Section 2.625 of the Eugene Code, 1971, is hereby amended to provide: 2.625 Fire Suppression & Pre~yention Services outside City Limits. ~[1~. A person residing outside the city or afire dis- trict desiring dire suppression or fire prevention services for the protection of his property shall make an application to the finance officer on forms provided, and if the applica- tion is approved, shall pay to the finance officer a sum of money as the council shall establish for the service. ~2~ The services provided under the preceding sub- section shall be secondary to the protection of pro ert p y within the city. Except as shah, be deemed safe by the city manager or his designate, city equipment and employes shall not be requ%red to, go to -fires outside the city. Section. 3. Sections 2.605, 2.610, 2.615 and 2.620 of the Eugene Code, 1971, are hereby repealed. Section 4. That the matters contained herein concern the public welfare and safety and therefore, an emergency is hereby declared to Ordinance ~- l 18'-33 exist, and the provisions of this Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage by the City Counc~.l and approval by the Mayor.
