ISSUE STATEMENT
This item is to acknowledge awards and achievements and inform the public of proclamations signed by
the Mayor. No action is required by the City Council.
BACKGROUND
At its 1997 fall process session, the council agreed to include a monthly agenda item entitled “Ceremonial
Matters.” From time to time, the Mayor is asked to sign proclamations or acknowledge awards received,
which serve to encourage and educate the community about important issues and events.
The following acknowledgements will be made at today’s meeting:
As a token of friendship between Eugene and Kakegawa, the City of Kakegawa sent a custom-
?
designed manhole cover to the City of Eugene to commemorate the two cities’ sister city relationship
and to honor the work done by previous Eugene delegations to Kakegawa. Tom Bickel will present
the gift on behalf of the City of Kakegawa.
Representatives from the City of Salem will present a resolution recognizing Eugene Airport
?
employee Mike Coontz, who provided temporary professional assistance while Salem’s Airport
Administrator was deployed in Iraq.
