HomeMy WebLinkAbout140521 WSMINUTES Eugene City Council Harris Hall,125 East 8*h Avenue Eugene, Oregon 97401 May 21, 2014 12:00 p.m. Councilors Present: George Brown, Betty Taylor, Alan Zelenka, George Poling, Mike Clark, Greg Evans, Claire Syrett, Chris Pryor Mayor Piercy opened the May 21, 2014, City Council work session. A. WORK SESSION: Consider Initiation of a Metro Plan Amendment for Property at 955 Coburg Road. MOTION and VOTE: Councilor Poling, seconded by Councilor Clark, moved to direct the City Manager to reschedule the work session on the possible initiation of a Metro Plan diagram amendment for 955 Coburg Road to a date before the council's summer recess, unless the neighborhood association and property owner notify the City Manager that the parties have reached a settlement. PASSED 7:0 (Councilor Evans absent from vote) B. WORK SESSION: Sidewalks and Trees City of Eugene Urban Forester Mark Snyder and Surface Operations Manager Eric Johnson presented background information on sidewalk systems, relevant code provisions, tree policies and regulation information. Council Discussion: • Eugene is known for its urban canopy and residents value that feature. • Many residents don't have resources to pay for sidewalk repairs and believe policy is unfair. • Explore funding assistance to help people pay for required repairs. • Many people are unaware of their responsibility for maintaining sidewalks; more public education on the City of Eugene's tree policy is needed. • Explore idea of partnerships with realtors to educate new homeowners on tree policy.
