Mayor Piercy opened the March 11, 2015, City Council work session.
A. WORK SESSION: Eugene Water &Electric Board Riverfront Redevelopment Project Update
Jay Namyet from the University of Oregon Foundation, shared the long-term vision for the
redevelopment project. Community Development Division Manager Denny Braud gave a PowerPoint
presentation on the progress and proposed steps of the project.
Council discussion:
• Unique geography and history of site demands unique redevelopment.
• Triple bottom line analysis should be incorporated into all planning.
• In addition to urban renewal funds, identify other resources the City can contribute.
• Think about active uses of the river when planning.
B. WORK SESSION: Legislative Update
Intergovernmental Relations Manager Lisa Gardner gave an update on bills being introduced and
considered at the State that the City has interest in and is currently following.
Council discussion:
• More long-term funding strategies need for continued rail service.
• State's action on sick leave legislation will determine when the City's sick leave ordinance
takes effect.
• Important for legislature to hear from public that rail is important.
