Mayor Piercy opened the May 27, 2015, City Council work session.
A. WORK SESSION: Community Events and Travel Lane County Update
Library, Recreation and Cultural Services Director Renee Grube, Community Events Manager Colette
Ramirez and CEO of Travel Lane County Kari Westlund presented information about the following:
"EugFun" program; signature community events; how the visitor industry is doing; facts and figures
around travel and tourism; and history and programs of Travel Lane County.
Council discussion:
• Greater emphasis on scheduling events in wards 5 and 6 desired.
• Support expressed for rebranding "Summer in the City" to "EugFun"; more inclusive.
• Events draw upon local artistic and creative talent.
• Ideas needed for how to showcase iconic features of the community in a new way.
• Need to infuse new energy, upgrades into downtown hotels.
• Greater effort to highlight unique truffle industry suggested.
B. COMMITTEE REPORTS AND ITEMS OF INTEREST FROM MAYOR, CITY COUNCIL, AND CITY
MANAGER
Council discussion:
• Eugene Police Department awards are on May 27 at 3:00 p.m.
• Mayor of Kakegawa will beat Harris Hall on May 28 for a ceremonial signing of joint
declaration of friendship.
• Lane Area Commission on Transportation is recruiting new members.
• MovingAhead workshops beginning on May 26.
• Human Services Commission is holding its meetings at the nonprofits it serves.
• 2015 State of Black report will be unveiled May 28.
• Public Works Day was a huge success, particularly for youth in the community.
The meeting adjourned at 1:18 p.m.
