Councilors Absent: Claire Syrett, Greg Evans
Councilor Taylor opened the October 14, 2015, City Council work session and noted that Mayor Piercy
was out of town on City business.
A. WORK SESSION: Fireworks
Lieutenant Scott Fellman and Fire Marshal Al Gerard gave an update on fireworks enforcement and
educational efforts in 2015.
Council discussion:
• Interest expressed in designating specific areas for setting off fireworks.
• More information requested on what type of fireworks caused fires; legal vs illegal.
• Consider increasing the consequences for violators of fireworks regulations.
• Interest expressed in a citywide ban on fireworks.
• Tweaks to ordinance are needed to enhance enforcement, including possession of remnants of
illegal fireworks; special permit allowances for use during prohibited times.
B. WORK SESSION: Bike Share Update
Associate Planner Reed Dunbar gave background information on bike share programs; bike share
feasty; bike share valuation and sponsorship strategy; funding; and bike share timeline.
Council discussion:
• Prepare for significant increase in usership; consider the creation of an app to enhance service.
• Glad to see this moving forward; effort to maximize sponsorships needed.
• Facilities and equipment must be attractive and safe in order for program to flourish.
