Betty Taylor, Alan Zelenka
Mayor Vinis opened the May 22, 2017, Work Session of the Eugene City Council.
A. WORK SESSION: Executive Session Pursuant to ORS 192.660 (2)(e)
B. WORK SESSION: City Council Process Session
City manager’s Office Division Manager Mia Cariaga led the council in a discussion of the process for
interviewing and appointing an interim Ward 4 councilor.
Council Discussion
All six applicants will have access to the other candidates' interviews, as interviews are a matter
of public record.
More important for the public to hear each candidate, than it is for the candidates to hear each
other.
The interviews would most likely be at least a half hour long, so it might be a good idea to split the
candidates between two meetings.
Many of the proposed candidate questions could be put on a supplemental questionnaire.
Preference voting might be a good idea since there are six candidates to choose from.
Wouldn't be able to use preference voting without changing the entire Council process for voting
on any item of business.
A work session before final action would be appropriate.
Should be a ballot after the interviews for the vacant Council seat.
The meeting adjourned at 7:06 p.m.
