A. WORK SESSION: Interviews for Vacant Council Position in Ward 4
The council interviewed Jennifer Yeh, John Jaworski, Jennifer Solomon, and Caroline Lundquist
for the vacant Ward 4 position. The following questions were asked of each applicant:
Councilor Taylor
Describe experiences you have had which contribute to your ability to be a city councilor. This could
include education, employment, volunteer work, family or social relationships.
Councilor Pryor
Please tell us how you balance your personal priorities and values with the priorities and values of
your ward and the priorities and values of Eugene as a whole.
Councilor Evans
As a city councilor, how do you define social justice and how would you lead the city toward its
human rights goals?
Councilor Semple
What do you think about City Hall? Include process, location, design and, most importantly, funding.
Councilor Clark
Please tell us your general impression of the people of Ward 4, their common views and values
compared to other wards, and what makes you the best fit to be the representative of the people of
Ward4.
Councilor Zelenka
In a survey done by the City, 75% of Eugene residents agreed that "climate change requires much
stronger regulations of greenhouse gas emissions." Do you agree or disagree with this statement, and
why? Secondly, when it comes to funding climate change projects do you see them as being on par
with other essential services like libraries, parks, police and fire? Or do you think funding is more
discretionary and we should fund these projects as money is available?
Councilor Syrett
How do you view the role of neighborhood associations in determining city policy, keeping in mind
that not all Eugene neighborhoods have active associations?
