1 . Work Sess ion: Downtown Update
Facilities Director Jeff Perry, Community Programs Manager Colette Ramirez, Urban
Development Manger Wi ll Dowdy, and Police Chief Chris Skin ner, gave an update on initiatives
taken downtown last summer season and what new programs will go into effect this summer.
Council Discussion
• Informatio n requested about the attended restrooms and how they operate.
• Consider feat uring art fr om Eugene's Sister Cities at one or more down town event.
• Support free parking on certain days related to downtow n program m ing.
• Su pport dep loyi ng sidewa lk scrubber on Saturday and Sunday mornings .
• Excited about downtown ambassado rs a nd how they migh t influe nce be havio r s downtown.
• More in fo rm ation about funding fo r d iffe rent programs n eeded .
• The practical a nd privacy aspects of camera usage, reco rding, and real time monitoring
di scussed.
• Th ere is a disconnect between talking about positive pla n ning and programming vs. what is
bein g done to address bad behavior.
• Concerns expressed about individuals struggling with mental health and th e need for more
help from Cahoots.
• Important to consider and have a plan for dea li ng w it h bad behavio r s that get pushed out to
other a reas.
• Support the concept of day sto rage loc kers.
• Support fu r ther consideration of opening t h e walls su r ro u nd ing Kesey Square.
