HomeMy WebLinkAbout250908 MTGMINUTES Eugene City Council Meeting Eugene, Oregon 97401 September 8, 2025 7:30p.m. Councilors Present: Eliza Kashinsky, Matt Keating, Alan Zelenka, Jennifer Yeh, Mike Clark, Greg Evans, Lyndsie Leech, and Randy Groves Mayor Kaarin Knudson opened the September 8, 2025, meeting of the Eugene City Council in hybrid in-person and virtual format at 500 E. 4th Avenue, Eugene, OR 97401, North Building. 1. CEREMONIAL MATTERS Mayor Knudson mentioned proclamations for Substance Use Disorder Recovery Month, International Day of Democracy, National Hispanic Heritage Month, International Day of Peace, and Autumn Equinox Day. 2. COMMITTEE REPORTS AND ITEMS OF INTEREST • Councilor Yeh -noted her attendance at the Lane Area Commission on Transportation; noted traffic fatalities are up in Oregon; noted her work session poll about the Flock camera system passed and a work session will be scheduled. • Councilor Keating -thanked Councilor Yeh for the work session poll; noted he is looking forward to the Flock camera discussion; noted he recently adopted a dog from Greenhill Humane Society; noted upcoming meetings for Lane Regional Air Protection Agency (LRAPA) and the Human Services Commission (HSC); thanked Eugene Springfield Fire for their quick action to put out the fire on Spencer Butte. • Councilor Clark -noted his recent attendance at a meeting of the Northeast Neighbors with Councilor Yeh; noted September 17 is Constitution Day and former Councilor Betty Taylor's birthday. 3. Approval of Voting Delegate for League of Oregon Cities Business Meeting MOTION: Councilor Evans, seconded by Councilor Leech, moved to approve the items on Consent Calendar 1. Lin Woodrich -spoke in favor of finalizing public health standards. 2. Elise Jaremka -spoke in favor of cancelling the contract with Flock cameras. 3. Ken Jones -spoke in favor of cancelling the contract with Flock cameras. 4. Naphtali Renshaw -spoke in favor of cancelling the contract with Flock cameras. 5. Jacob Griffin -spoke in favor of cancelling the contract with Flock cameras. 6. Ashley Wright -spoke in favor of cancelling the contract with Flock cameras. 7. Council Discussion: • Councilor Yeh -stated the concerns about the Flock camera system are reasonable; noteµ she is working to learn more about Flock; encouraged community members to reach out to Council with questions and concerns. • Mayor Knudson -noted she appreciates feedback from the public and emphasized the importance of open dialogue; acknowledged the concerns raised about city policy; noted efforts to be values driven and consistent with local laws protecting individuals; stated local elected officials are accountable to the public and the constitution.
