AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY
This work session is part of an ongoing opportunity for the City Council to discuss how it conducts its
business. The council meets periodically for a discussion of its processes and operating agreements.
BACKGROUND
The last council process session convened on Wednesday, October 15, 2008. Since that time,
suggestions for future process session have been collected and solicited by staff.
Specific items scheduled for discussion at the September 23, 2009, meeting include the following:

Citizen Involvement Committee (Zelenka)
?
Process to honor staff and community members (Zelenka)
?
Attending council meetings via conference phone (Solomon)
?
Council officer succession (Pryor)
?
Maximizing use of council work session time
?
City Council meeting minutes (detailed vs. summary vs. video)
?
New tools/technology for agenda materials, meeting records and minutes, goals and issues
tracking
?
Mayor/City Council email distribution list
?
Inclusion of ordinances showing legislative/grammatical changes in agenda packets
Issues that were deferred from the previous process session are the following:

Use of council office space (guidelines, courtesies)
?
Meeting safety
RELATED CITY POLICIES
Elements of this item relate to the council goal of “effective, accountable municipal government.”
COUNCIL OPTIONS
The council may provide input and direction for staff follow-up on the issues discussed. No formal
action is anticipated.
