Pod-sitively Delicious: Food Cart Pod Opens in
Broadway Plaza
Five Eugene-area entrepreneurs will celebrate the
grand opening of their new Food Cart Pod in the
Broadway Plaza at the intersection of Broadway and
Willamette Streets in Eugene on Friday, June 4, 2010,
from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Food Cart Pod will offer a wide variety of cuisine,
from hearty sandwiches and soups to raw vegan
wraps, salads and desserts. The business owners
emphasize the use of local, farm-fresh seasonal
produce and ingredients and are committed to
sustainable operation practices. Food Cart Pod
vendors will be open Monday through Friday for lunch,
and some carts will be open for extended hours and
for special events.

Elected Officials Invited to Life Flight Open House
The Life Flight Air Medical Network has operated a base at
Eugene’s Emergency Services Center (ESC) since last
summer, when the service moved to the ESC from the
Eugene Airport. The move was made in order to reduce
overhead costs for the air carrier, while helping to further
establish the ESC as a regional center of emergency
operations.
With a new helipad installed (funded primarily by Life Flight,
with $5,000 each contributed by the Lane Fire Defense Board
and Springfield FireMed), and with the partnership operating
smoothly, the Mayor and City Council are invited to Life
Flight’s open house barbecue on Sunday, June 13, from noon
to 4 p.m. The occasion will be an opportunity to inspect the
new base and the Life Flight helicopter, enjoy lunch on the campus, and meet some of the locally based Life Flight
EMTs, as well as to learn more about the service and to network with local stakeholders in the medical service

Life Flight is an essential component of the area’s comprehensive medical rescue and emergency transport
system, providing airlift capability in remote locations as well as rapid inter-facility transfers of patients needing
special care. Life Flight coverage has been a popular addition to the FireMed ambulance membership program
available to local households.

Runway Rehabilitation Construction Starts
Construction started June 1 on the Eugene Airport’s (EUG) main runway, which will undergo complete
rehabilitation construction throughout the month of June.
The project is not expected to impact commercial or general aviation
traffic. Aircraft utilizing EUG will use the east parallel runway during
construction, which is used daily by general aviation traffic and often by
commercial traffic when maintenance is being performed on the main
runway.
The bulk of the project will be completed in June with construction crews
operating 24-hours-a-day for 28 days, with an allowance for rain delays.
The project includes resurfacing the full 8,009-foot length of the runway,
grade corrections and building runway shoulders to current design
standards, reconstruction of Taxiway A6, replacement of runway lights, and
installing an in-pavement temperature sensor system. Finish-work,
including grooving and pavement markings, will be completed by the end of September 2010.
