Home My WebLink AboutResolution No. 4293�i RESOLUTION NO.. A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING EIGHT WARDS IN THE CITY FOR PURPOSES OF CITY ELECTIONS, AND REPEALING RESOLUTION NO. 36136 The. City Council of the City of Eugene finds that: r A. Section 6 of the Eugene Charter of 1976 provides for electing City Co uncil members by wards, and Section 33 of the Eugene Charter of 1976 requires the City' Council to divide the City into wards. B. Section 2.962 of the Eugene Code, 1971 requires that the City be divided into eight wards by resolution of the Council. C. Section 2.966(3) of the Eugene Code, 1971 requires that four of the five members of the Eugene Water &Electric Board (EWEB) be elected by wards. D. In accordance therewith, on December 14, 1981 the Council adopted Resolution No. 3613 establishing eight wards in the City. Annexations to the City and increases in population since that time necessitates realignment of the ward boundaries of the City. E. Prompt realignment of the boundaries is necessary in order to elicit in a timely manner candidacies for Council and EWEB offices. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CM COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EUGENE, a Municipal Corporation of the State of Oregon, as follows: Section 1. The City of Eugene is divided into eight wards, as shown on the map attached as Exhibit A hereto and incorporated herein by reference. Section 2. In- the event property is annexed to the City of Eugene in the area North of the existing City limits and South of Beltline Road, electors residing within the annexed area shall be assigned to Ward 7. Section 3. In the event property is annexed to the City of Eugene in the area North of Beltline Road and East of the Northwest Expressway, electors residing within the annexed area shall be assigned to ward 5. Section 4. In the event property is annexed to the City of Eugene in the area Resolution - 1 A North of the City limits and West of the Northwest Expressway, electors residing within the annexed area shall be assigned to Ward 6. Section 5 . At such time as property is annexed to the City of Eugene and the electors residing therein are assigned to City wards, the City Manager or designee shall review the results thereof in order to determine whether redistricting is necessary as a result of an increase in the number of electors in those wards. Section 5. That Resolution No. 3613 adopted by the Council on December 14, 1981, and any other resolution in conflict herewith is hereby repealed. Section 7. The City Recorder is requested to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to the Chief Elections officer of the Lane County Records & Election Department. The foregoing Resolution adopted this J. day of December, 1991. .Dep� City Recorder i Resolution - 2 xESOL ON NO. qjct� f A RESOLUTION CONCERNPiG WARD BOUNDARIES AND AhIEND MAP ATTACEOED AS EXHIBIT ATO RESOLUTION NO, 4293, The City Council of the City of Eugene finds that* A. on December 2, 1991 the Council adopted Resolution No. 4293 establishing eig wards within the City for p ur po ses of City elections as reflected on the ma � � p � ty P attached t as Exhibit A thereto. B. Since adoption of Resolution No. 4293 it has been discovered that there was an error in the population figures for Wards 3 and 7 necessitating a realignment of those ward boundaries. C. It is necessary to promptly correct the boundaries for Wards 3 and 7 as set forth in the map attached as Exhibit A hereto in order to ensure that precincts are properly identified and candidates for Council and EWEB offices are aware of the correct boundaries. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF' 'THE CI'T'Y OF EUGENE, a Municipal Corporation of the State of Oregon, as follows: Section 1. Based on the above findings, which are hereby adopted, the map attached as Exhibit A to Resolution No. 4293 is hereby amended, and the City of Eugene is divided into eight wards as shown on the map attached as Exhibit A hereto and incorporated herein by reference. Section 2. The City Recorder is requested to replace the map attached as Exhibit A to Resolution No. 4293 with a copy of the Exhibit A attached hereto. Section 3. Except as herein amended, all other provisions of Resolution No. 4293 remain in full force and effect. Section 4. The City Recorder is requested to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to the Chief Elections Officer of the Lane County Records &Election Department. The foregoing Resolution adopted the 27th y of January, 1992.
