Public Meeting Slated to Discuss Improvements to Jeppesen Acres Road
A proposed project to improve a section of Jeppesen Acres Road in north
Eugene will be the subject of a public meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 10, from 6:30 to
8:00 p.m., at Sheldon Community Center, 2445 Willakenzie Road.
As proposed in the City’s current Capital Improvement Program, the project
would upgrade the unimproved section of Jeppesen Acres from Gilham Road to
Providence Street to a two-lane urban facility, with street lights, street trees,
travel lanes, planting strips, and sidewalks on both sides of the street. These
improvements would increase the safety, efficiency and capacity of this collector
street, and also provide better access for alternative modes.
Staff will be on hand to present general information about the project, discuss the
public process for proceeding with the project, and review estimated costs to
property owners who would pay a portion of the improvement costs through
assessments. It’s also an opportunity for staff to hear comments, questions,
concerns and feedback before moving into the design phase of the project.

Storytime FUNdamentals Workshop at Eugene Public Library
The Downtown Eugene Public Library will hold “Storytime FUNdamentals,” a workshop for adults who work with young
children, on Saturday, Jan. 21, from 1 – 3 p.m. The program is free-of-charge, but pre-registration is required: please
call 541-682-8316.
This lively workshop will explore fun ways to help children become “reading-
ready.” Participants will learn why and how to support kids’ developing literacy
through everyday activities including talking, singing, playing, reading, and writing.
Cara Haakanson and Barbara DeRobertis of the Eugene Public Library’s Youth
Services staff will share updated information from the national program “Every
Child Ready to Read,” plus favorite storytime books, activities, songs, and expert
tips.
The workshop is for adults only, and counts as training for licensed childcare
providers through Family Connections of Lane and Douglas counties.

Adaptive Ski Program Starts January 13
Adaptive Recreation offers the region’s premier ski program - Alpine Adventures - for
children and adults with physical disabilities from Jan. 13 - March 24. Skiers age eight and
older of all experience levels are invited to experience the thrill of skiing at Hoodoo Resort.
The $75 fee includes adapted ski equipment, lift ticket, transportation, instruction and more
fun than imaginable. (Fee is $60 without transportation.) Partial scholarships are available.
The program will be for veterans only on “Heroes Day,” Saturday, March 3; and for youth age
16 and younger on Youth Day, Saturday, March 24.
Skiers new to Alpine Adventures must contact Carly Schmidt in Adaptive Recreation prior to
registration. Returning Alpine Adventure skiers may register at www.eugene-or.gov/recenroll or call 541-682-5311.
Volunteer ski instructors and assistants are needed.
