New, Improved 2011 Neighborhood Analysis: An Excellent Data Resource
Neighborhood Services is pleased to release the City of Eugene’s 2011 Neighborhood Analysis as a shared resource
for City staff and neighborhood and community organizations. The 2011 Neighborhood Analysis is organized so that
users can find information, at the individual neighborhood level or for
the entire city, on the following themes: people, homes, economic
vitality, transportation, land use and zoning, and safety. Examples of
the information available include age and gender, school enrollment,
type of housing, income, housing costs, poverty levels, work
commute times, land use, property crime and more. Several maps
that illustrate data are also included. A variety of data sources were
used including the U.S. Census Bureau Census 2010 and American
Community Survey 2005-09 5-Year and 2010 1-Year Estimates,
existing City of Eugene and regional Geographic Information System
data, and Eugene Police Department crime statistics.
The information in the 2011 Neighborhood Analysis can be used as a
tool to help support work in the community and neighborhoods in
many ways, such as identifying needs and priorities for planning and
future action; informing outreach efforts so broad neighborhood demographics are included; comparing a
neighborhood with other neighborhoods or the city as a whole; clarifying neighborhood issues; gathering data for
grants or other applications; and generating important questions or considerations that might lay the foundation for
surveys or further data analysis.

Shop for a Cause: Annual Book Sale to Benefit Eugene Public Library
The Annual Friends of Eugene Public Library Book Sale will be held Saturday,
April 14, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, April 15, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Lane Events
Center (Lane County Fairgrounds) Performance Hall. Proceeds from this all-
volunteer project go to support Eugene Public Library programs and services,
including the Summer Reading Program for children and teens. Admission and
parking are free.
Browse and choose from thousands of gently used and like-new books on all
topics, at bargain prices of only $1.00 to $2.00. Also for sale will be DVDs, audio
books, sheet music, and a huge selection of music CDs. Recent bestsellers will
be available in the Good as New Section, and collectors can check for rare and

specialty books in the Individually Priced Section. A children's area will offer a large selection of books, DVDs, and
CDs for kids. VISA/Mastercard will be accepted, as well as cash and checks.
The book sale is the Friends of Eugene Public Library's major fundraiser each year. More than 300 volunteers work on
the sale, many year-round. In 2011, the event took in more than $79,000 to support Eugene Public Library programs
and services.

Recreation Begins Third Year of Archery Activities
Recreation Division’s Youth and Family Services is offering an archery club, archery classes and archery camps this
spring and summer. While the current interest in archery can be attributed to the popular Hunger Games book and movie,
this is the third year the Youth and Family Program has offered archery.
Beginning this June, youth ages 11 -16 may enroll in a summer-long archery club
that includes instruction, competition and field trips. On July 28 and Aug. 18,
archery competitions will be held for 10 -18 year-olds (location TBD).
Beginning archery camps held in July will teach youth 8 -12 and 13 -18 how to hit
the target, be comfortable behind the bow and shoot at the next level. A national
level archer will teach the intermediate archery camps held in July that will
include trips to three different field ranges.
In addition, Petersen Barn’s outdoor archery range is open to archers age 10 and up on Tuesdays and Thursdays, July
31 - Aug. 30 from 6 -7 p.m. For more information, call Peter Chavannes at 541-682-5521.
