Eugene Sunday Streets: Walk and Roll Sunday from Noon to 4 p.m.
Eugene will be sponsoring the second annual Sunday Streets event on Sunday, Sept. 9, from noon to 4 p.m. Eugene
Sunday Streets creates a car-free route that opens a three-mile stretch of road for people to walk, roll and dance
through the streets. The three activity centers along the route will provide fun and healthy activities.
Washburne Park will feature the Pedal Powered Stage
with the Conjugal Visitors (bluegrass), Barefoot Leroy
(Americana) and DJ Foodstamp (family friendly).
Activities include an acrobatic silks demonstration, hoop
class, slack-lining, and an acro-yoga workshop (bring a
mat). University Park Activity Center will offer free yoga
for adults and kids, Petanque (French lawn bowling),
Barre3 class, a guided history walk, sustainable design
walking tour, fun kids’ field activities and more.
Performances at University Park include Upstart Crow
Children’s Theatre, Grey Matter Jugglers, and Stephan
Nance (folk rock). The Eugene Masonic Cemetery will
host a “find the veteran” game as well as walking tours.
There will be a bicycle expo at Amazon Park near the
Hilyard Community Center offering bicycle registration,
kids’ traffic garden and helmet decorating, a tricycle drag
race and a track stand competition. Many local bicycle
shops and vendors will be on hand as well.
Eugene Sunday Streets will be a celebration of the south
Eugene area, highlighting the many amenities and local
businesses of the neighborhood while promoting healthy
activities and active means of transportation. The route

consists of two loops: the southern loop runs from 27 to
th
24 avenues and from Hilyard to Potter streets, and the

northern loop runs from 24 to 19 avenues and from
University to Agate streets. With no designated start or
finish, community members of all ages can enjoy the
two-way route at their own pace.
Sunday Streets is expected to attract 4,000 community members. Although neighbors are encouraged to limit or
postpone driving between noon and 4 p.m. on the day of the event, there will be designated intersections to allow

2012 Fun for All Ends with Olympic Fun
Nearly 200 children, ages seven - 14, participated in the Fun for All Olympics on Aug. 24, the last day of the City’s
2012 free summer playground program. The children boarded Recreation vans at their neighborhood park and were
transported to Petersen Barn Center for the day-long games. The event began with a “Parade of Parks,” with “athletes”
from each park displaying their park banner.
There were six events, including:
Catapult Tennis - team members use tennis rackets to swat catapulted
water balloons.
Dizzy Bat Obstacle Course – with their forehead pressed to the end of a
baseball bat, contestants walk around the bat until they are dizzy, and then
try to complete an obstacle course.
Portrait relay – each team member has 20 seconds to add to the drawing of
a portrait.
Single elimination dodge ball – once and done.
Watermelon relay – team members run to a watermelon, eat a piece and
spit out the seeds; the team with the greatest number of seeds wins.
Art Tournament – each child is given a series of materials to create art projects which are then judged.
An ACT-SO student gave a lunchtime performance and Food for Lane County provided lunch, as it has all summer for
the Fun for All program.
More than 13,500 visits to the Fun for All Program were recorded this summer. The program provided recreation
activities Monday - Friday in eight neighborhood parks from July 2 – Aug. 24.

2012 Eugene Green Home & Garden Tour
Tickets are on sale for the fourth annual BRING Home & Garden Tour scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 16, from 10 a.m. to
4 p.m. Co-hosted by the City and Eugene Water & Electric Board, the tour is designed to inspire and educate the
community about sustainable living strategies. This self-guided tour of 12
homes and gardens provides participants an opportunity to gather great
ideas and learn by example. The theme, “Thinking small to save big,”
reflects the tour’s emphasis on making the most of small spaces. Tour-
goers will get a first-hand view of living on an efficient scale, including a tiny
house on wheels, creative remodels, quality second units and new homes
incorporating the latest in energy efficiency strategies.
Homeowners and building professionals will be on-hand to speak about
sustainable home and garden strategies, including ultra-low energy use,
active and passive solar, aging-in-place, rainwater harvesting, reuse of
materials, edible and low-water-use landscaping, rain gardens and much
more. Participants can also delve deeper into green living topics by attending workshops at various homes on the tour.

The event is part of the American Solar Energy Society’s National Solar Tour, where
more than 160,000 participants will visit innovative buildings in 3,200 communities
across the U.S.
Tickets are on sale at a variety of locations throughout the community, including the

Atrium Building (99 West 10 Avenue) where low-income tickets are also available.
Volunteers are needed for two-hour shifts on the day of the tour to take tickets, greet
tour-goers and provide information at one of the homes or gardens. Volunteers get a
