Celebrate Eugene@150 at Eugene Public Library
In October, the Downtown Eugene Public Library continues to host many events inviting all ages to learn about and
celebrate Eugene.
On Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 6 p.m., David G. Turner, author of a
book of historical Eugene photographs for the “Images of
America” series, will give an illustrated talk about photographs
and photographers documenting the city for the past 150 years
(pictured).
Writer and directorTim McIntosh will present an original play,
“Our Town, Eugene,” on First Friday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m. Unfolding
as the city changes over the years, it tells a story of competing
ideals and clashing hopes under one roof, with a cast featuring
Jay Hash, Nancy Hopps, Richard Leebrick, Jorah LaFleur, Dan
Pegoda, Andrew Poletto and Haley Washington.
Each Sunday at 3 p.m., the Downtown Library’s Family Fun
series will focus on various aspects of Eugene. On Oct. 7, kids
and family are invited to make a mural imagining a future Eugene
with Sharon Kaplan of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. Esther Stuzman will tell Kalapuya stories, traditional tribal
tales of the original inhabitants of the Willamette Valley, on Oct. 14. Lauren Willis and the marionettes of the University
of Oregon’s Museum of Natural and Cultural History will be entertainingly educational on Oct. 21. And, on Oct. 28, join
a folk song sing-along with Adam Miller, a renowned American folksinger and natural-born storyteller.

Oregon Facilities Authority Comes to Eugene
The Oregon Facilities Authority (OFA) is the state agency that helps nonprofit §501(c)(3) organizations access low-
cost financing for the purchase, construction and renovation of facilities, and refinancing of debt for those purposes.
OFA will hold an informational session to help nonprofits and bankers learn more about its program in Eugene on Oct.
3, 2012.

Oregon Facilities Authority has several programs for nonprofits. The Small Nonprofit Accelerated ProgramSNAP)
Bond program is of special interest to both nonprofits and bankers. This is a low-cost, streamlined way for nonprofits to
access bank real estate loans at low-interest rates and for banks to serve their nonprofit customers with attractive
rates. The average SNAP Bond amount is about $2 million. OFA also has other financing programs that can help
nonprofits save on interest costs for larger or different types of projects.

The information session will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Oregon’s new
Regional Health and Education Center, 3579 Franklin Boulevard, which was financed in part through SNAP Bonds.
Other area nonprofits that have benefited from SNAP Bond financings are the Pearl Buck Center and the Ridgeline
Montessori Charter School. Nonprofits, bankers, and others interested in attending the program should contact Tillie
Hasson at 503-802-2137to reserve seats at the presentation.
Following the information session, OFA will hold its regular monthly business meeting in the Bascom/Tykeson Room at
the Eugene Public Library, at 1 p.m. The City’s Finance Director Sue Cutsogeorge has served on the OFA board
since 2005, and was instrumental in the development of the SNAP Bond program. For more information about OFA,

Great Summer in the City Reported
This year, Summer in the City kicked off with Celebrating Eugene@150 featuring Abbey Road LIVE and Fred Crafts’
Radio Redux, attended by more than 800 people. There were 46 free events around town. Library, Recreation and
Cultural Services, and Public Works have been
working together for the past three years to
market six series of events under one Summer in
the City umbrella. Some highlights included Disco
Dodgeball, which was a huge hit; and the popular
Get Your Chops Back event when 15 musicians
responded to the call to “dust off your instruments
and come make music with us.” The new Sunday
Jam: Dancin’ in the Park series was also very
successful, with almost 600 people attending the
three jams at Sladden Park.

to honor Eugene’s 150 birthday and it was
served at several events on Kesey Square.
Proceeds were shared with FOOD for Lane
County and Cultural Services to assist with costs
for the 150th birthday celebration activities.
In addition, a new Park for Lunch program debuted this summer. The Eugene Police Department, with assistance from
Recreation and Cultural Services, successfully changed the environment downtown during lunch time by bringing
events and activities to the Park Blocks on 35 days.
