Breakfast with Santa at Community Centers
Ho ho ho! Santa will be attending breakfasts at Petersen Barn and Amazon Community
Centers in December - join the fun and don’t forget to bring a camera!
Kids of all ages are invited to sit down to breakfast with the jolly old elf himself. He’ll be
at Petersen Barn Center on Dec. 8, from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. On Dec. 15, he’ll visit two
breakfasts at Amazon Center, one from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. and another from 10:30 -
11:30. Each breakfast costs $5 per person.
Pre-registration is required and should be done soon because this event usually fills up

Human Rights Commission Co-Hosts Celebration
The City of Eugene Human Rights Commission, in cooperation with the
Lane County Network for Immigrant Integration, will be hosting an
International Human Rights Day Celebration on Wednesday, Dec. 5, from
5:30 - 8:00 p.m. in the Atrium. The theme of this year’s event is
Immigrant Rights = Human Rights.
Everyone is invited to participate in this community-centered event
featuring a proclamation from Mayor Kitty Piercy, remarks from
Springfield Mayor Christine Lundberg, keynote address by Ibrahim
Hamide, a video premier showcasing local immigrant voices, and the first
annual Human Rights in Action youth awards. Local service agencies
will also be available and there will be music and appetizers.

Stock Up for Winter: Used Mystery Novel Sale at Public Library
Mystery lovers: it’d be a crime to miss the Friends of Eugene Public Library’s Used Mystery Novel
Sale on Sunday, Dec. 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Downtown Library. All proceeds will go to
support Eugene Public Library programs.

Hult Center Continues Eugene’s Birthday Celebration
Kick off the holiday season with the release of the 30 birthday signature Pinot Noir by King Estate Winery and Eugene

Concert Choir’s Spirit of Christmas.
The wine will make its debut on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Eugene Concert
Choir (ECC) Spirit of Christmas Concert. Relish the soft tannins, lingering
fruit and medium long finish of this signature pinot. The Hult Center offers
this commemorative wine for purchase at $5 a glass.
Celebrate with the Hult Center and ECC at pre-concert festivities in the
lobby starting at 7p.m., then kick off the holiday with ECC’s heartwarming
concert of songs from classics to jazz at 8 p.m. Tickets are available online
at HultCenter.org or call 541-682-5000.
The Hult Center will continue to serve its 30 birthday beer, Pearl Red,

throughout the season while supplies last. This fabulous hoppy red ale is
brewed by Eugene’s very own Oakshire Brewing.
Also, be sure to stop by the Hult Lobby and visit the Post-It Wall. Installed as part of the 30 birthday celebration, the wall

Newsletter Highlights Flood Risks, Drug Disposal Options and Leaf Program
Recent downpours and piles of leaves wreaked havoc in intersections and along low-lying roads and driveways and
parking lots in November. Those disruptions are a reminder that along with winter rains comes the possibility of localized
flooding. Several pages of the fall 2012 stormwater program newsletter, Stormwater Connections, covers flood insurance,
safety tips, flood risk and a floodplain map of Eugene.
Residents who want to dispose of leaves or find better
ways to use them will find the 2012-13 leaf collection
schedule and suggestions on how to integrate them
back into the landscape. After all, decomposed leaves
have the ability to hold 300 to 500 percent of their
weight in water.
Those who have pondered the best way to dispose of
outdated or no-longer-needed pharmaceuticals can
find a listing of several drug take-back drop box
locations and the best methods of disposal.
Other informative topics include the latest findings
about the levels of zinc found in water and soils, the
sometimes disastrous consequences of unsecured
loads on trucks and other vehicles and a retrospective
look at water quality and the seemingly innocuous products that can compromise river health.
The focus of Stormwater Connections is educating and informing community members about stormwater pollution and
ways to protect the local waterways. Articles in Stormwater Connections typically address seasonal or current issues and
include one page of interest for younger readers.
