Dana, Regional Advisor, and C. C. Hockley, State <br /> Engineer for Oregan~. <br /> A communication from Dr. Frederick D. Stricker relating to the subject of <br /> municipal swimming pool, and recommending the controll of foot disease by certain <br /> installation, was read, but the swi~ning season being over it appeared no action <br /> was necessary. <br /> The req,ue st of the State of Oregon Corporation Department for a refund of <br /> $8.92, for plumbing expenses incurred at 2420 Cherry Grove, which they alleged were <br /> unnecessary and occasioned by error on the part of the inspector or City Engineer, <br />. was referred to the Sewer Committee to report back at the next Council meeting. <br /> It was reported that under bids the City had purchased from the Booth Kelly <br /> Lumber Company material for the construction of an addition to the barn in Hendricks <br /> Park, at the agreed price of <iPlll.80, and that the construction work was under way <br /> at the present t ilue . <br /> Mayor Large referred to the delinq,uence in assessments due the City, and the <br /> necessity for a definite program in the interest of collections of these assessments <br /> and as well the protection of property owners, by makiile; available relief methods; <br /> and with the approval of the Council, referred the mattel' to the Finance Commi ttee, <br /> Ci ty At torne y, and Recorder to outline a definite police for the handling of these <br /> ma tt ers. <br /> . <br /> An Ordinance relating to the placing of a license upon theaters and shows was <br /> read the fi rs t time in full, and referred to the Judiciary and Police Committee and <br /> City Attorney. <br />I Councilman Zumwalt reported Water 30ard bill for 9peration of the fountain at <br /> the Court House corner was receiving consideration of the County Judge. <br /> Councilman Hendershott representing the third Ward recommended to the Mayor <br /> and Oouncil the name of Dr~ 1.1. C. Harris as Councilman to fill the vacancy <br /> occasioned by the resignation of Councilman V. D. Scobert. Whereupon Mayor Large <br /> a,ppoin ted Dr. M. C. Harris as Councilman from the third "Ward to fi 11 said vacancy <br /> I until the next general election. Whereupon a motion was made, seconded and carried <br /> that the a.ppointment be confirmed, and Dr. Harri s was declared elected. He was <br /> I escorted to the Council Chambers by Chief Bergman and the oath of office administ- <br /> ered to him by Recorder Bryson, and thereupon assumed his seat in the Council~ <br /> Ma~vor Large appointed Councilman Harris to all committee positions formerly held by <br /> Councilman Scobert, and on motion the appointments were confirmed by the Council. <br /> On recommendation of the Police Cownittee and motion of the Council duly <br /> seconded and carried, the Recorder was instructed to issue a license for the sale of <br /> alc oholic beverage to Audley M. Reeve to conduct this business at 746 Park Street. <br />.' Councilman Hendershott offered the following Resolution: <br /> RESOLUTIONc <br /> WHEREAS on the 26th day of August, 1933, Urs. Adelaide Lilley departed this <br /> life, and <br /> 1:> <br /> ~VHEREAS for many years Mrs. Lille y has fai thfully and capably served the <br /> City as Librarian of the Eugene Public Library, and <br /> Therefore, be it resolved that the City Council officially recognizes the <br /> long and faithful and efficient public service, and the friendly and substantial <br />I contribution to the mental and spiritual welfare of the community which she served, <br /> and - that the City still recognizing the Decree of an all wise Providence, yet <br /> deplores the passing of a loyal public servant. <br /> --- <br /> o On motion the Council adjourned. <br /> . <br /> < R.
