Upon motion made and duly seoonded the <br />request was unanimously approved. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />~ <br />- "'" <br /> <br />Councilman Hanna, Chairman of the Fire and Water Committee was given authority to <br />continue his efforts in the 1m tter of establishing fire protection -to di stricts adjacent to the <br />City of Eugene, It is understood that an annual tax levy might be included in ,the regula.r property <br />tax for suburban fire protection. <br /> <br />28 <br /> <br />) <br />29 <br /> <br />Counoilman Farrington reported that there had'been considerable discussion ~ the <br />Finance Committee, the City Engineer and Joseph Harrell concerning the erection of proposed <br />hangars at the airport. It was revealed that the remcrlel ing of the airport dwelling plus a two <br />plane hangar would cost approxima tely $1100.00. The cost or the hangar would be pa id for by <br />rentals on a period of five years time. Mr. Frank Seales, a member of a Flying Group, addressed <br />the council emphasizing the need of add itional hangars at the ai rport. Counci lman Bond s~ gested <br />preparing a lease or leases for this or other clubs and let them build the hangar according to <br />the City Engineer's specifications and location and at the end of five years tina the hangar <br />would revert to the City. The matter was left in the hands of the Finance Committee to report <br />back:to the Common Council. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />J <br />30 <br /> <br />At this time City Recorder, C. M. B~Jan, reported tl'at Sarah L. Wright had complained <br />of the council's action in granting permission to Mr. Bertch to leave the trees in the parking <br />strip at 2223 Alder Street until fall. The recorder was instructed to canfer with Mr. Bertch and <br />secure from him a written guarantee that in event the sewer was blocked by the roots of the trees <br />prior'to this fall that he, Mr. Bertch, would stand the cost of repair. tf not, the trees must <br />be removed without further delay. <br /> <br />J <br />31 <br /> <br />An Ordinance repealing ordinance No. 8571 regulating the cutting-of curbing on any <br />street or all~ with the City of Eugene was presented, to the council. It had its first reading <br />and passed to its second and third readings by title under suspension of the rules by unanimous <br />consent of the council and and was placed for final reading. The ayes and nays were called, <br />councilmen voting aye: le.mb, Reid, Boni, Farrington, Harms, Page and Koppe; nay, none; absent, <br />Carlson. The ordinance was declared passed and numbered 8599. <br /> <br />\ <br /> <br />32 . <br />) <br />33 <br /> <br />The following five curb cut applications were presented and recommendation of the City <br />Engineer Clubb approved: E. C. McPherson, 1069 Fourth Avenue West, No. 642, (approved); Clyde <br />McDougal, 1290 Charnelton, No. 643, (approved); General Petroleum Company, 310 Broad,VaY, (approved); <br />Arthur Gilbert, 777 Jefferson Street, No. 645, (approved); and Max Rubenstein, 2215 University, <br />No. 6!.~6, (approved). <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The City Recorder at this time presented the annual report of Percy W. Brown for the <br />year of 1938.
