Godlove 1.80 <br /> I The Finance Committee reported that a number of complaints had been received <br /> objecting to the Foster & Kleiser sign at the southeast corner of 18th and Willarnett <br /> Streets. The committee stated that the present lease expired on March 8, 1940 and <br /> because of the complaints vrou1d recommend that upon its termination the lease be <br /> not renewed. Upon motion made and seconded the recommendation was unanimously <br /> approved and the City Recorder instructed to notify the company to have the sign <br /> 16 removed at the expiration of the lease. <br /> The Committee further reported that about a year ago when the city mowed an <br /> old house from their let on Madison Street between Sixth and Seventh Streets, they' <br /> had never cleaned the lot and asked that this be done. Mr. C. A. LeVan, Supt. of <br /> 17 Streets, stated that he, would see that this was done immediately. <br /> Chairman Farrington reported that the city has approximately one thousand <br /> city lots for sale and would recommend granting authority to the Lien Department, un er <br /> the supervision of the City Engineer, to secure deeds for some of the property so it <br /> would be immediately saleable. Upon motion made and seconded this recommendation <br /> was unanimously ~pproved. Councilman Koppe suggested that the city put signs on the <br /> city lots for sale to see if it wouldn't help sell the lots and the suggestion was <br /> 18 ..-- unani~ously approved. <br /> I Councilman Farrington recommended that the Treasurer's Surety Bond for the <br /> 19- year 1940 be supplied by Bryant G. DeBar and it was so ordered. <br /> \ Councilman Hanns, Chairman of the Fire and Water Committee recommended the <br /> installation of a street light at the intersection of 24th and Alder Streets,the <br /> light to be the same size as other lights in that vicinity. Upon motion made and <br /> seconded the recommendation was unanimously approved and the City Recorder <br /> 20:- instructed to notify the Eugene Water Board of the installation. <br /> I Councilman Page, Chairman of the Printing and Parks Committee, recommended t e <br /> approval of the proposed WPA projects in the parks the same coming within their <br /> regular budget and the proper officers instructed to sign the necesary papers. Upon <br /> 21-- motion made and seconded the recommendation was unani$ously approved. <br /> Councilman Bond, Chairman of the Police Committee stated that the College <br /> Side Inn (Newton S. Smith) and the Taylor's Confectionery (Herschel Taylor) had <br /> rBquested a change of their license from Retail Beer Class "B" License to a <br /> Retail Beer Class "Cn License, and it was the recommendation of the Police <br /> Committee that the request be granted.
