<br /> Farrington stated that he had considered the same change and had consulted the
<br /> City Treasurer but felt that the Treasurer's office could not handle this extra
<br /> I work without additional help. ~-e stated his committee had considered hiring a man 0
<br /> part time basis to assist with the care of the parking meters and in that way
<br /> Treasurer Hulegaard would remain in t he office all day so he could take care of the
<br /> dog licenses and other business. However, this matter is being given conside~ation
<br /> 12- and ~ll be discussed further at the council meeting of January 8, 1940.
<br /> Councilman Farr:ington asked the counci 11 s approval for the purchasing' of
<br /> office equipment, in the amount of ~93.30 from Koke-Chapman Company, to
<br /> handle the parking meter work and also the approval of the purchase of a filing cabi at
<br /> . at the rate of $3.00 per month as rental to be applied on the purchase price if the
<br /> meters are kept permanently. Upon mbtion made and seconded the r'equest was
<br /> 13-- unanimously approved.
<br /> Councilman Farrington also reported that he had received a number of
<br /> complaints from people protesting against the alley parking of the Dollar Stage Line-
<br /> busses parking 1n the alley running north and south between P.ark and Broadway and
<br /> Willamette and Oak Streets. tie stated that the busses often park there for long
<br /> periods of. time and he felt it wasn1t quite fair to grant the bUS line this priv11eg
<br /> and deny the same priVilege to others. ,It was his recommendation that the Recorder
<br /> write Mr. W. H. Eggers of the Facific Greyhound Lines to see if arrangements could b
<br /> 14/made for taking care of these stages at some other location and it was so ordered.
<br /> Councilman Hanns.~ Chairman of the Fire and Water Committee recommended the
<br /> installation of a street light on west 4th street halfway between Blair and Polk
<br /> Streets. . The recommendation was unanimously approved and the City Recorder instruct
<br /> I 15- to notify the ~ugene Water Board of such installation.
<br /> Councilman Page reported that the P'arks Ccrmmittee had given due cons'lderatio
<br /> to the request of the Eugene Active Club for a B'oy Scout Cabin location in
<br /> Spencer's Butte Farka and recommended that the request be granted. Mr. Wendell
<br /> IGray, representing the Bugene Active Club stated that it would be a log cabin', well
<br /> Ibu1,1 t and located on the spring on the south side of the l:3utte. He stated that the
<br /> !Active Club was not asking the city for title to the property and at any' time the
<br /> '2i ty f'el t the cabin should be removed they would gladly remove it. He recommended
<br /> Ithat the cabin be kept closed and not thrown open to general puolic use because it
<br /> ~as for the benefit of their particular troupe He added, however, that they were
<br /> Iwilling to extend the use of the cabin to responsible parties wishing to use the cabi
<br /> ~hen it was not in use by the Scout, Troup. Councilman Page recommended that this
<br /> ~e allowed with the provision that the exact location and nature of the construction
<br /> pf the building meet with the approval of the Gity Engineer. Councilman Reid objecte
<br /> Ito allowing this group or any other group to construct buildings on city property
<br /> stating that the precedent would throw the parks open for many such requests. Upon

<br /> otifying the city to file a list of all properties upon-which the city has municipal
<br /> Qiens, which property is included in the deed issued to Lane County by the Shertfr
<br /> l:1nd f'iled for record'December 15, 1939, and upon which the County Court has, given
<br /> ~n order to the Sheriff to offer the same for sale to the highest bidder for cash,
<br /> ~ut ~or not less than the assessed value thereof as the same appears on the .1935 tax
<br /> I ,k-oll, said sale to be held at the County Court Eouse, in Eugene ~ Lane County, Oregon,
<br /> Ibn the 19th day of January, 1940', between the hours of 10 :00 0' clock in the forenoon
<br /> k:nd 4:00 oiclock in the afternoon of said date. The matter was referred to the c;ity
<br /> 17--lAttorney and the Judiciary Committee.

<br /> la-month of November and ordered placed on file.

<br /> -'rule that all loading zones hereafter will be held open to trucks servicing customers
<br /> , . pnly, without charge, all day, and if loading zone be filled and other- parking space
<br /> be vacant, that service trucks be permitted to park in aaid other space~ fo~"
<br /> ~ervicing customers, by paying meter fee the same as any other vehicle, and further
<br /> fhat service trucks be permitted to park in any legal parking space without cha,ge,
<br /> ~o service c~stomers only~ until 10:00 A.M. The petitions were ordered placed on
<br /> tile because all the requests presented within the petitions had previously been
<br /> 19 - tranted.
