<br />""'" 3 2 2 <br /> <br />W <br />J'iJ <br />J':J <br /> <br />service North on Washington Street from 5th Avenue to 1st Avenue, <br />and thence West on 1st Avenue to Monr0e Street, thence South on <br />Monroe Street to 2nd Avenue and thence on 2nd Avenue to Madison <br />Street and thence North on Madison Street to 1st Avenue; and <br />the right is hereby granted to the Oregon Motor Stages to use <br />such streets, <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Therefore <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the Citynof Eugene <br />that the Oregon Motor Stages be and it is hereby permitted to make <br />use of the above described streets or portions thereof. <br /> <br />Fire and Water Committee Chairman Hanns reported that organization of rural <br />fire districts in the areas of River Road, Glenwood and South Willamette were all <br />~king progress and he hoped to have a more complete report read~ at the next council <br />2T meeting. <br /> <br />Councilman Hanns reported that the Fire Department had made two rural calls, <br />one to a mill at Marcola and one to Hyland's Mill and although the Fire Department <br />was too late in the matter of servicing the mills, in both instances lumber and <br />other buildings were saved and services "rendered were very much appreciated. The <br />j City Recorder was instructed to send bills to those people for whom the ser~ices <br />22 were rendered and it was so ordered. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Upon the request of Sewer Committee Chairman Reid, the City Recorder read a <br />communication from Lottie N. Rugh stating that she had sewer assessments on certain <br />lots that were useless and she wanted this assessment in the amount that she had <br />paid on them, transferred to other property. The communication was referred to the <br />23 Sewer Committee to report a recommendation at the next council meeting. <br /> <br />Communication was presented from W. C. Clubb, City Engineer, revealing the <br />request of the Aberdeen Plywood Company for the extension of the sewer to the site <br />of their plant. The understanding is that they wish the city to construct this <br />sewer. The Ci~y Engineer reported the capacity of the sewer between Second and Thir <br />Avenues is limited to twenty-one cubic feet per minute which would only take care <br />of the sanitary facilities. The matter was-referred to the Sewer Committee to <br />J prepare a complete report with their recommendation and the Mayor to call a special I' <br />24 meeting of the council to act upon the same. <br /> <br />Communication was presented from the Dual Parking Meter Company, the Duncan <br />Meter Company, and the Oregon Parking Meter Company with all three companies grantin <br />an extension of the present parking meter contracts for a trial period to and includ ng <br />December 31, 1940. As there were other details to attend to, the communication was <br />2~ referred to the Police Committee to report back at the next meeting of the Council. <br /> <br />S. M. Calkins, City Attorney, reported that the proposed extension of lease <br />of the Southern Pacific Company for certain railroad right-of-ways would have to be <br />handled as a new franchise as provided by charter and he wished instruction from <br />the council as the terms and period of time the franchise would cover. Complaint <br />was made concerning the failure of the Southern Pacific Company to keep up the <br />street crossings in good condition and repair and the City Recorder was instructed <br />to communicate with the Southern Pacific Company reporting that consideration in <br />the new franchise would be held up pending the company's work being done on street <br />ycrossings satisfactorily to the Street Committee of the City of Eugene and it was <br />26 so ordered. <br /> <br />Communication was presented fromW. W. McDonald telli~g the city he would not <br />be interested in paying $500.00 for the property he offered $300 for and thanked <br />~them -very much for the trouble in this regard. The communication was ordered placed <br />27 on file. <br /> <br />Communication was presented from the Board of Appeailis presenting a letter <br />from George H. Newton aSking for a waiver of "set-back" requirements for a house to <br />be erected on the lot at the southwest corner.of the intersection of Jefferson <br />Street and Sixteenth Avenue. The Board recommends that Mr. Newton be granted a "set <br />backll of ten feet on Sixteenth Avenue but be required to observe the established <br />w"set-back" on Jefferson Street or not less than eighteen feet. The recommendation <br />28 of the Board was unanimously approved. <br /> <br />Communication was presented signed by W. E. Nusbaum Fire Chief, C. F. Bergman <br />Chief of Police, and S. R. Mosher, Building Inspector, recommending the condemnation <br />of the barn on the north 61.5 feet of Lot 9, Block 2, Chambers Addition, as. the . <br />barn is in such a condition that it is considered a serious fire 'hazard. Motion <br />. was made and seoonded unanimously approving the recommendation and the City Attorney <br />2~ instructed to prepare condemnation proceedings, and it was so ordered.~~~ <br /> <br />Communication was presented from James W.
