On motion made and seconded, payment of these bills out of <br />the emergency fund was authorized. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />7 ....., <br /> <br />Councilman Pennington, reporting for the Sewer Department, said, he ,had <br />nothing further tllan the report regarding the Washington Street sewer. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Councilman Bond reporting for the ,Police Committee said that he had a <br />request from Mrs. Cal Young and other residents outside of the City, regarding <br />a yellow line in the middle of the street from the East side of the Ferry Street <br />bridge to Sixth and HiV1 Street. Councilman Bond stated that he understood this <br />was a secondary highway and thought tha~J it would be in order to ask the Oregon <br />State Highway Commission to paint a yellow marker for this district. The motion <br />was made, seconded, and carried that the Recorder be instructed to request the <br />State Highway Cownission to paint this yellow line. Councilman Bond also reported <br />that the Police Committee had instructed the Recorder to place an order with the <br />Simmons Kendall company for a new ~rudor Sedan at a price of $488 .96. He stated <br />he had asked for sealed bids from the Siro~ons Kendall Co., the Chevrolet Co., the <br />Sigloh-Sawyer Co. and that the JPord Co. was $100.00 less than' either one of the <br />other. He said the delivery of ' this Ford car depended on getting a priority from <br />8 '!:. th e Government. <br /> <br />At this time Mayor Large brought up the question fuf ladders for the <br />new fire truck. He s,tated that a representative of the American LaFrance <br />Foamite Co. had been in Eugene the last week and that the company asked to be <br />allowed to ship ladders with alUminum sides and steel rungs and that as soon as <br />complete alwIlinum ladders could be secured, they would be furnished in place of the <br />ones with the steel rungs. He stated that the American LaFrance Feamite Company <br />was willing to give the city a letter stating that the full aluminum ladders <br />would be furnished as soon as they were available. A motion was made and seconded <br />that the Recorder be authorized to notify the American LaFrance Foamite Company <br />that the city would accept the ladders with aluminillIl sides and steel rungs, with <br />the understanding that the ~nerican LaFrance Foamite Company was to furnish the <br />City a letter stating that the full aluminum ,ladder would be furnished at the <br />earliest opportunity, and that the American LaFrance Company was,to pay freight <br />charges for theal uminum ladders with steel rungs, for ,the full a lurninum ladders, <br />and for the return of the aluminum ladders with steel rungs. This motion was <br />9'-1 carr ied. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />A petition with fifty signatures regarding the condition of a woodyard <br />on the "dead end" of West Second Street, which, due to the lack of drainage, <br />gives forth a stench during certain seasons of the year, was read. Since the <br />wood yard is at the present time nearly devoid of wood, the request was being <br />made that steps be taken to eliminate this stagnation and create a sanitary <br />and healthful condition. Greeh, requesting from the City a contract to <br />operate the old Aviation Field beginning April 1, 1942, was read. The expiration <br />date of the present contract for the Aviation Field with Joseph Harrell is <br />March 20th. Mr. Green stated that he would be willing to pay the City 5% of the <br />gross earnings and asked that a contract be drawn up. This matter was referred <br />l~~ to the Judiciary Committee and the City Attorney. <br /> <br />~ <br />
