All Councilmen were present with the exception of Stewart. <br /> <br />Judge Hurd was present and asked to put out barrels on s orne of the street corner-s <br />for old rubbish, such as shoes, rubber heels, and other articles. Judge Hurd <br />explained that the barrels would be marked what they were to be used for. This <br />permission was granted. Judge Hurd also explained that they had been working on <br />the location of the new Ferry Street Bridge and had two different lines that had <br />been decided on; both VJould come into the North end of High Street. He said either <br />line was acceptable to the State Highway Cownission and he would like to have some <br />of the City officials go over the ground with him and decide on which line the <br />City would prefer. Mayor Large appointed the members of the Street Corr~ittee and <br />City Engineer Blubb to meet with'me County officials and go over the ground. <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />Mr. J. H. Walker', representing the Eastern Lane County Fire Patrol, asked permis- <br />sion to erect a new antenna 220 feet long for the new radio which they were <br />installing. He explained that they were installing a new high frequency radio and <br />it was necessary to have a horizontal antenna. tie stated that they wished to <br />connect it to the end of the Crabtree building but this would cross a power line <br />and that he understood there was an ordinance against this. A motion was made, <br />seconded, and carried that the Eastern Lane County Fire Patrol be allowed to <br />erect this antenna if they could get the approval of the Eu[ene Water Board. <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />Rev. George T.Dickinson addressed the Council and asked for permission to renew <br />the permit for the temporary building located at 13th and Oak Sts. He explained <br />that they had agreed to dispose of the building by June 1 but the would like <br />per'mission to extend the permit to September 1. He explained tha t their carpenters <br />were out of town working at the Corvallis cantonment and it was almost impossible <br />to get help at this time. He stated further that if they would dismantle it now <br />I it would have to be stored until September 1 but on September 1 it could be dis~ <br />mantled and shipped at of town'<to another location. On motion made and seconded, <br />permission was granted to leave the building until September 1. <br /> <br />A letter from the Fairhurst Lumber Company, asking to use the upstairs of the <br />building at 291 West Tenth Street for an office, was read. Mr. Fairhurst was <br />present and stated that he was living downstairs and that they wished to have <br />their office upstairs. He stated that they would have no stock of any kind on <br />the premises and that most of their business was conduc~ed by telephone. A <br />motion made by Bond and seconded by Hawn that this request be granted, was carried. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />4 <br /> <br />The Judiciary Committee had no report. <br /> <br />Councilman Farrington of the Finance Comrnittee stated that about six months <br />previous, permission had been granted by the Council for Mr. E. G. Brown to trade <br />the City a 13.33 strip of ground on the West side of Tyler Street between 8th <br />and 9th for a lot located at the Northwest corner of 9th and Tyler Streets. He <br />explained that the t~ade had never been completed and that since that time the <br />City had constructed a sidewalk costing $48.60 on the property which was owned <br />by the City. He said that Ufr. Brovvn now would like to complet-e the trade and that <br />Mr. Brown would pay for the cost of the sidewalk in payments of $5.00 a month. <br />A motion was made by Farrington and seconded by Bond that this trade be made. The <br />motion was carried. <br /> <br />5 <br /> <br />The Street Department had no report. <br /> <br />Counciliuan Bond, reporting for the Fire and Water Committee, stated there was a <br />twelve-inch main on Fifth Street between Willanlette and Pearl and also a four-inch <br />main on the same street; that when the new twelve-inch main was laid the City had <br />not installed fire hydrants and that now there was a break in the four-inch main <br />and the Water Board would have to discontinue use of this'four-inch main so it <br />I was necessary to have hydrants installed on the twelve~inch main. He stated the <br />':1 <br />City had no valves on hand that would be suitable for this change over and asked <br />for permission to order twonnew valves at $73.08 each and two new Corey hydrants <br />I at $96.87 each. Mr. Bond explained that it would be some time before the hydrants <br />I would be received and that the funds to pay for these valves and hydrants were to <br />I come out of the 1942-1943 budget allowance.
