Davis asking that the Cormnander's Council be permitted to hold <br />a Memorial Day parade on Saturday, May 30th, was granted. <br /> <br />'I'he:c:resignation of Alonzo VI. Knotts was read and on motion made and 'Seconded, it <br />was accepted. <br /> <br />O"J <br />\", <br />ck' <br /> <br />9 <br /> <br />10 <br /> <br />Attorney Calkins explained, that Mrs. R. V. Quick at 1679 Lincoln Street had talked <br />to him regarding an accident she claimed she had by stepping in a hole in a parking <br />strip where a Stteet Sign had been pulled out and that Mrs. Qu&ck claimed to have <br />strained or ruptured a ligament in her ankle. This matter was referred to the <br />Judiciary Cornrni ttee and the Oi ty Attorney for investigation. <br /> <br />The Recorder re~orted that the Civil Aeronautics Administration wished to renew <br />their lease for Remote Control Quarters and Storeroom, also the Beacon Site and <br />the site for the antenna pole at the Old Aviation Field; this new lease to be from <br />July 1, 1942 to June 30, 1943. Mayor Large explained that it was quite likely that <br />they would not use this for the full year 8S it would probably be moved to the new <br />airport. On motion made and seconded, the Mayor and Recorder were instructed to <br />enter into a lease as requested. <br /> <br />11 <br /> <br />12 <br /> <br />Mayor Large explained that he had just had a telephone call from J. E. Slattery, <br />District Forester of the 0 & C Land Grant, requesting the use of the part of the lot <br />just East of the City Street Department Building at 101 West 5th Street. He stated <br />that this was for the use of' their Fire patrol work and would only want it for <br />the SUInhler months and 'that they would want to put a temporary building for their <br />tools and some other equipinent. He said he did not know just the size of the <br />building but that it would be small. <br /> <br />13 <br /> <br />Councilman Barette stated that he had had this lot cleaned up and that it was in <br />good shape now and that there was a possibility of their getting some rental out <br />of it. Mayor Large explained that the 0 & C Land Grant people wohld not want to <br />pay any rent but that they were a Government concern and owmng to the fact that it <br />was to be used for fire fighting equipment he thought permission should be granted. <br />There was some discussion by the Council about allowing a temporary building to be <br />put on the lot. A motion was made by Councilman Brownson and seconded by Councilman <br />Hawn that this permission be granted for the summer months only and under the direc- <br />tion of City Engineer Blubb. <br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />WHEREAS, heretofore, the City of Eugene at the instance of School Distri'ct No. 4 <br />caused the sterilization of the grounds at Frances Willard by burning by its <br />street 6epartment at a total cost of $76.68, and, <br /> <br />vVHEREAS, 'a bill has been forwarded to School District No. 4 and there has been <br />received a letter from the School District in WIlich it is cla imed that they are <br />merely middle-men and not liable and making another computation of what was done <br />amounting to $46,68 excluding any pay for the use of the city equipment, and <br />tendering a check of $46.68. <br /> <br />14 <br /> <br />IT IS THEREForE RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Eugene that the offer <br />of $46.68 by the School Board in full settlement of invoice for sterilization of <br />the ~urface of Frances Willard grounds in August, 1941 be refused and the recorder <br />be directed to transmit a copy of this resolution &ogether with a demand by the Cit <br />to School District No.4 for the full sum of $76.86 in conformity with the invoice <br />and to return the offered check of $46.68. <br /> <br />15 <br /> <br />A letter :from C. M. Bryan, City Recorder, dated May 25th was read. Mr. Bryan <br />stated that he was attaching a signed and witnessed statement of acceptance of <br />nomination for the position of City Recorder and requested that this statement <br />be placed on file in the office of the City Recorder, and be attached to and become <br />part of nominatins petitions that are to be circulated later. The letter was <br />ordered placed on file. <br /> <br />16 <br /> <br />The Recorder reported that the report of the Eugene \Vater Board for the year ending <br />Dec. 31, 1941 had been received and thisrreport was ordered placed on file. <br /> <br />Councilman Barette reported at this tline that the roof on the City Barn at 101 w. <br />5th St. was in very bad condition and leaked like a sieve.
