Bid by the Acme Roofing Company in the Sunl of $1,044.00 <br />and an alternate bid in the ~um of $892.00. Ray Jacobs in the Sunl of $992.85. <br />21 Bahling Roofing Company in the Slinl of $1,092.50 and an alternate bid of $916.50 <br />with an additional charge of $45.00. On motion by Bond and seconded by Hawn this <br />matter was referred to the Street Committee and City Engineer to report back at <br />the next Council meeting. <br /> <br />A resolution from the Planning Commission regarding chan~e in classification of <br />22 Lot 8, Block 4, Shelton Addition was read, instructing that a hearing be held <br />by the Council on June 22nd. <br /> <br />An ordinance amending Ordinance #8413 had its first reading and was laid over. <br />23 This Ordinance is in regard to changing the classification of Lot 8, Block 4, <br />Shelton Addition. <br /> <br />An Ordinance amending Section 6 (1-2) light industrial of Ordinance 8413. <br />This Ordinance had to do with the changing of districts in which a crematory should <br />be allowed to operate. The City Attorney explained that at the present time the <br />24 crematory was only allowed to operate in a~"heavy industrial district. This <br />Ordinance was read the first time and passed to its second and third readings by <br />unanimous consent of the council by title under suspension of the rules and was <br />placed for final passage. The ayes'and nays were called; councilmen voting <br />aye: Bond, Pennington, Farrington, Koppe, Hawn, and Barette; nay, none; absent, <br />Stewart, and Brownson. The Ordinance Vias declared passed and nunlbered 8745. <br /> <br />25 <br /> <br />Mayor Large at this time reported that he had disposed of the hay on the new <br />Municipal Airport, for $50.00. ____ __~ ______.__ <br /> <br />Mayor Large explained that the War Department wished to use all of the..,Armory <br />Building for the Civic Center and that they wanted the lease from the state to the <br />City changed. On motion made by Farrington and ~econded by Bond, and carried, ~he <br />Mayor was authorized to enter into a new.lease wlth the State~r the Armory BUlld- <br />ing. .. (6'~~- ~L___ _ _ <br /> <br />I. <br /> <br />26 <br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />VffiEREAS, heretofore confusion has. arisen as to the City's policy with <br />respect to time allowed employees for vacations, sick leaves, and other absences; <br /> <br />THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Eugene that, <br />beginning July first, 1942, all City employees will be allowed two weeks vacation <br />with pay, after each full year's continuous service, ahd no other or further <br />allowance shall be made for any purpose. <br /> <br />On motion by Farrington and seconded by Hawn, this re~olution was adopted. <br />Mayor Large appointed the following .committee to draw up an Ordinance regarding <br />payroll reports to be luade to the Recorder by the various City Departments and <br />other recommendations that they mi[ht have along this line: Louise Koppe, <br />Austin Farrington, and Sam Bond. <br /> <br />At this time, Mr's. Q,uick addres sed the Council in regard to her claim of ~~300. 00 <br />which had been read to the council earlier in the meeting. She explained that she <br />had already been out of employment for a considerable length of time and was not <br />28 yet able to go back to work and stressed the point that she felt that she was <br />entitled to all she had asked for and more than the $75.00 that the Judiciary <br />Committee had recommended that she get. No further action in this matter was <br />taken by the Council. .,,>., <br /> <br />27 <br /> <br />, <br />Council Farrington asked Engineer Clubb regarding' the condition of the railroad <br />crossing at Monroe Street. Mr. Clubb stated that nothing further, only the <br />temporary repairs that they had made just after out previous letter. <br />Mr. Clubb explained that several of the other~ railroad crossings were also <br />in bad condition. Previously the Recorder had been asked to send a letter to the <br />Southern Pacific requesting that this crossing be repaired and at this <br />time the Council authorized the Recorder to send another letter to the Southern <br />Pacific regardin~_ the condi tion of this crossing at Monroe Street and also of <br />other crossings in the City. <br /> <br />Mr. A. IJ. Gilbert was present and said that he had been accused of cutting the <br />curb at 1870 Fairmount Boulevard without first securing a perlnit. He said that <br />he had asked for permission to do this work but that the permit had not been [ranted <br />by the Council and that he had gone ahead and done the vvork as he had a crew <br />there doing other cement work. There was some Qiscussion between Mr. Gilbert and <br />Mr. Clubb regarding this and other vvork which IICr. Gilbert referred to. Mr. Gilbert <br />said that he really had not handled this curb cut situation himself but that it <br />had been done by the boys while he 'cas sick.
