The meeting was called to order by Mayor Large. West Johnson addressed the Council regarding the recent sign franohise <br />granted the Eugene Hotel. Mr. Johnson stated that as a pDoperty owner adjacent <br />to the intersection, he felt that he had been done an i~justice, that the present <br />pole, for the support chf the sign was unattractive, would look more like a I <br />chimney and he a blot to the City. Mr. Johnson stated that in December, Mrs. <br />Johnson had entered into an oral agreement with Mr. McLean, manager of the Eugene <br />Hotel, that for the rental price of $25.00 a month, they would continue the .' <br />support for the, Eugene Hotel sign. Mr. Johnson stated he thought the Council <br />should reconsider their action. Councilman Farrington stated that the Council <br />knew nothin of the oral agreement between Mrs. Johnson and Mr. McLean and <br />Councilman Crumbaker explained that an add had been carried in the Register <br />Guard and that the Guard had carried news stories regarding the franchise before <br />it was passed by the Council. Mr. Johnson stated he had been out of town at <br />that time and knew nothing about this transaction. Mr. Johnson stated that it <br />had been suggested to him that he say nothing about thisfranchi,se and that he <br />did not ,know whether this was tntended as a threat. Mr. Johnson said that he <br />would like to know whether'thiswas the intention of the Council to grant similiar <br />franohises chr was it exclusively tar the Eugene Hotel. Mayor Large explained <br />tha~ hhe Eugene Hotelhad'made a 'written request for the franchise and that was <br />the way it had been brought to the attention of ,the Council. Mr. Johnson stated <br />he would like a franchise,granting privilieges such as granted the Eugene Hotel <br />and that he would make the Council a yvritten request. Councilman Bar,ette suggested <br />that Mr. Johnson and Mr. ~cLean should get together and he felt that they could <br />adjust their difference. Attorney Calkins stated that he had talke with Mr. <br />Johnson's attorney and the Attorney suggested that it was up to Mr. Johnson and <br />Mr. McLean' to get together and make an adjustment.
