<br /> Verdi Powell, 1202 Jacobs Drive, introduced herself as the manager of the <br /> Solvang housing development and reviewed the vandalism which had occurred there <br /> e since March, 1982. She urged the council to approve the request and make the <br /> place safe for elderly residents. <br /> Lulu Lane, 1202 Jacobs Drive, Apt. #149, said she was a retired Los Angeles <br /> police officer and a resident of the Solvang housing development, and listed <br /> acts of vandalism which she had experienced and heard about. <br /> Councilor Ball arrived at the meeting. <br /> Glen Pederson, 1189 Fairfield Avenue, continued indicating that construction of <br /> an alternative connector had been completed. He denied the allegation that this <br /> vacation would simply move the problem from Solvang to the Village Square. <br /> Noting that the overwhelming majority of neighborhood residents had approved the <br /> request, together with the Eugene Bicycle Committee, the police and fire depart- <br /> ments, and the Bethel citizens group, he requested approval of the request. <br /> There being no further testimony, the public hearing was closed. <br /> CB 2667--An ordinance authorizing vacation of a 46-foot-radius <br /> cul-de-sac on Marshall Avenue and a 12-foot-wide <br /> pedestrian-bikeway easement linking the Marshall <br /> Avenue cul-de-sac and Jacobs Street. <br /> Ms. Schue moved, seconded by Ms. Smith, that the bill be read <br /> the second time by council bill number only, with unanimous <br /> consent of the council, and that enactment be considered at <br /> e this time. <br /> In response to a question from Councilor Schue, Mr. Croteau confirmed that <br /> the land in question had been dedicated to the City by Solvang, and that no <br /> money had changed hands or would at this time. In response to questions from <br /> Councilor Hansen, Mr. Croteau said that fire access would be maintained, but <br /> that there would be no need for turnaround space for stray vehicles. <br /> Roll call vote; motion carried unanimously. <br /> Ms. Schue moved, seconded by Ms. Smith, that the bill be approved <br /> and given final passage.
