CALL TO ORDER <br /> The meeting of the Eugene City Council was called to order by His Honor Mayor <br /> Jeff Mi 11 er. <br /> II. WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS <br /> Mayor Miller introduced his wife Mary and aunt Ruby. He acknowledged Irene <br /> Stark, who interpreted the State of the City event for the hearing impaired. <br /> Eugene City Councilors were introduced as follows: Randy MacDonald, repre- <br />. senting Ward 1; Ruth Bascom, representing Ward 2; Debra Ehrman, representing <br /> Ward 3; Paul Nicholson, representing Ward 4; Kaye Robinette, representing Ward <br /> 5; Bobby Green, Council Vice President representing Ward 6; Shawn Boles, <br /> Council President representing Ward 7; and Roger Rutan, representing Ward 8, <br /> III. RECOGNITIONS <br /> Mayor Miller presented plaques to six individuals whom he described as typical <br /> of those in the audience who represent the community's spirit of volunteerism. <br /> Pearl Hill was recognized for her work with the community's youth, public <br /> safety issues, and African-American concerns. George Russell accepted the <br /> plaque as Ms. Hill was unable to attend the meeting. <br /> Gretchen Hult Pierce was recognized for her professional cooperation and <br /> creative contributions to the City of Eugene. <br /> Michael Schwartz was recognized for inspiring enthusiasm, commitment, and <br /> caring, both personally and professionally in the community. <br /> Alicia Hays was recognized for her commitment to advocating the rights of, and <br /> inclusion of, people with disabilities in the community. <br />.
