Primarily, staff would be looking at what <br /> other states have done. <br /> Public hearing was opened. <br /> Jewel Baker, Aging Commission alternate, reminded the Council of its <br /> hard task when it decided that there should be no discriminatory <br /> practices toward homosexuals. She said the Commission would like to <br /> insist that someone age 65 and older is entitled to the same kinds of <br /> considerations. She said it should be understood that continuing <br /> employment past 65 should be on the basis of competency only. In no <br /> way would they want an incompetent person to be retained. Seniors are <br /> perfectly willing to stand their performance against anyone of any age. <br /> Public hearing was closed. <br /> C.B. 1738--Regarding Human Rights: Amending Sections 4.615 and 4.620 <br /> of the Code, 1971; and providing an effective date was <br /> read by council bill number and title only, there being <br /> no Councilor present requesting that it be read in full. <br /> Mr. Keller said he had no problem with staff responding to the issue <br /> of removal of any age reference from the Code at some future convenient <br /> date. <br />- Mr. Hamel moved, seconded by Mr. Bradley, that the bill be read <br /> the second time by council bill number only, with unanimous <br /> consent of the Council, and that enactment be considered at this <br /> time.
