Mr. Andersen responded that he <br /> would meet with them individually as time permits. <br /> Ms. Wooten asked if he would be reviewing applications that come to Mayor <br /> Keller's home; Mr. Andersen responded that he would review all applications. <br /> Mr. Lieuallen noted that as resumes arrive in Eugene, they would be categorized <br /> and sent to Mr. Andersen's office. He feels it would be good if the council <br /> could have copies of those applications here to look at if they desired. Ms. <br /> Smith noted that all applications would be available to the councilors. ~. <br /> Andersen confirmed Ms. Smith's statement. He said that during the selection <br /> of finalists when the background checks are being done, there will be a small <br /> group of applicants that will stand apart as outstanding candidates. <br /> Mayor Keller noted that the council had previously discussed receiving a <br /> progress report before the final deadline, and he asked when that would be. <br /> Mr. Delay stated that that would depend upon how the operation is going. <br /> Some preliminary assessments must be made. Mr. Andersen stated that between the <br /> time of the advertising and the time of the application deadline, effort is <br /> spent on identifying outstanding candidates. The bulk of resumes will come in e <br /> between October 5 and October 8. They will batch resumes until all are in. <br /> Mr. Obie asked how many people Mr. Andersen expects to talk to. Mr. Andersen <br /> replied that it is a much tighter labor market now than previously. Reloca- <br /> tion costs are sometimes a deterrent. There are more people leaving the pro- <br /> fession now than before, but there is a large group who are thinking about it. <br /> He feels that Eugene is a fine opportunity and probably will receive between <br /> 100-150 applications. <br /> Mr. Obie asked how many potential applicants Mr. Andersen would be talking to. <br /> Mr. Andersen replied that they will probably invite between 25 and 40 people to <br /> apply. Ms. Smith asked if they would be identifying potential candidates from <br /> across the country. ~. Andersen replied that they would be looking to identify <br /> the cream of the crop. Mr. Obie asked if some of these people have already <br /> been identified. ~. Andersen replied that these people will be chosen from <br /> a national perspective, but that it will be a customized list, not a standard <br /> list. <br /> Mr. Obie asked if the guidelines the council has come up with will be different <br /> from Springfield or San Jose or other areas.
