URBAN DESIGN ASSISTANCE TEAM--STAFF PRESENTATION (memo distributed) <br /> <br />Mr. Whitlew stated that the Northwest Region of the American Institute of <br />Architects will be holding a regienal conference in Eugene to take a loek <br />at the waterways. Den Lutes and Den Smith are ce-cha irmen of thi s conference. <br /> <br />Mr. Lutes stated that every 11 years, the Northwest Region hests the AlA <br />cenference. They are having it in Eugene for the first time since 1954, <br />and the theme is, "Where Water Flews, The City Grows." Events are scheduled <br />througheut the entire city te expose participants to the entire city. The <br />pregram was distributed to council. He introduced Den Smith to provide <br />additienal information. <br /> <br />Mr. Smith stated that in cenjunctien with the conference, the Urban Design <br />Assistance Team will be explering oppertunities fer water use and develop- <br />ment in Eugene. UDAT's work has been going en since January. UDAT . <br />consists of Saul Zaik, Edgar Ross, Grant Jones, and Robert Mitcheltree. <br />The results .of this working experience will be presented to conference <br />attendants at the closing event as well as presented in a publication to <br />the City. He extended an invitatien for the public te attend this event. <br />on Wednesday, October 8, 5:30 p.m., at the Valley River Inn. <br /> <br />Mayer Keller thanked them for their presentation and invitation. ~ <br /> <br /> <br />III. ELECTED OFFICIALS COORDINATING COMMITTEE STATUS REPORT <br /> <br />Mayor Keller stated that the Elected Officials Coerdinating Committee met <br />on Thursday to begin discussing setting up the framework to study indus- <br />trial lands in the metrepelitan area. It was agreed that the study <br />would be conducted by a joint task ferce of 12 persons, feur frem each <br />jurisdiction. The four members from each juriSdiction should have <br />representation as follows: a member of the Planning Cemmissien; a <br />member .of the Ecenomic Development Cemmittee; a representative from <br />the business interest or Chamber of Commerce; and a citizen represen- <br />tative. He said these appeintments do net need to be made today and <br />requested that councilers contact him or Ms. Miller with recemmendations <br />fer appeintments. He stated that not much prcgress .occurred at yesterday's <br />meeting. <br /> <br />Ms. Miller agreed that little, if any, progress was made at yesterday's <br />meeting. They need to determine what will be studied, the number of <br />people invclved, who they will be, how much it will cost, who it would be <br />paid by, as well as answers te other questiens befere they can proceed. <br />Ms. Smith asked if other jurisdictions are appointing task force members. <br />Mayer Keller responded that this is not yet happening so there is no need <br />fer the City to appoint members at this time.
