CONSIDERATION OF ACTIVE BETHEL CITIZENS' CHARTER REVISIONS AND RECOGNITION <br /> OF THE BETHEL TRIANGLE NEIGHBORS (memo, resolutions, additional information <br /> distributed) <br /> Mr. Gleason introduced Ruth Miller, City Manager's Office. <br /> Ms. Miller stated that there are two resolutions. One is to delete the Bethel <br /> Triangle Area from the Active Bethel Citizens' Neighborhood, and would remove <br /> an area north of the city limits and another area that is not residential. The <br /> other resolution is for recognition of the Bethel Triangle Neighborhood. The <br /> City Attorney's Office has reviewed the charter and the charter revisions. Roxy <br /> Sarasin, Active Bethel Citizens, and Robert Jordan, Bethel Triangle Neighbors, <br /> are available to answer additional questions. <br /> Ms. Smith stated that in the September 30, 1981, memo, four significant changes <br /> were listed. The second of those was regarding Classification 501(3)(c). She <br /> asked if they are a non-profit group. Ms. Miller responded that they are, but <br /> they have not yet received the 501(3)(c) designation. Whiteaker Neighborhood <br /> has that status already. Ms. Smith asked if this was a growing trend on the <br /> part of the neighborhood groups, which were originally intended for advisory. <br /> groups. She asked if they are now becoming more formal. Ms. Miller stated that <br /> they are. This designation would allow them to receive contributions and to <br /> administer Community Development money. Ms. Smith asked if this was a positive <br /> step. Ms. Miller responded that it is. Ms. Smith asked if this provides more <br /> aut~nomy.
