<br />Ms. Taylor noted the recent letter to the editor complaining about the domination of Amazon Pool hours by <br />swim teams and other organized events rather than by taxpayers. She thought something should be done <br />about that. <br /> <br />Mr. Clark also commended the recent Olympic Trials. Acknowledging his initial concerns about the project, <br />he said he had been proud to participate in the press conference for the transfer of the Centre Court building <br />to Beam and looked forward to the success of the project. He hoped the community was seeing the <br />beginning of a transformation downtown. <br /> <br />Mr. Clark noted the upcoming Cal Young potluck picnic on July 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Gilham Park. <br /> <br />Mr. Clark thanked City staff for considering creative and effective ways to use taxpayer funds to solve some <br />of the community’s pothole problems as well as the extra time spent by staff discussing road solutions with <br />residents of Bond Lane. <br /> <br />Mr. Poling also thanked the organizers of the Olympic Trials. He concurred with the thanks extended to <br />staff by Mr. Clark in regard to the road funding, and suggested the solution being proposed was effective. <br /> <br />Ms. Solomon said the Active Bethel Citizens neighborhood organization elected new officers at its last <br />meeting and was a new and energized group. She said the Elmira-Maple road project open house was the <br />next day at the Fairfield Baptist Church, commencing at 4:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Ms. Solomon asked if the City would be asked to provide additional infrastructure for the Beam project. <br />Community Development Director Mike Sullivan indicated that Beam had not asked for any such funding. <br />At this time, he did not anticipate any funding request. <br /> <br />Ms. Ortiz expressed appreciation to those responsible for the trials and to City staff. She expressed <br />appreciation to the article on the trials written by Springfield Mayor Sid Leiken. She reported on the all-day <br />upcoming Whiteaker Community Council block party on August 9. She also reported on the recent meeting <br />of the Lane Regional Air Protection Authority meeting and circulated a letter from Faye Stewart regarding <br />Lane County’s reduced budget contribution. <br /> <br />Ms. Ortiz reported that the Human Services Commission held a four-hour planning session that involved <br />priority setting and she did not know if the commission had arrived at anything new given the needs that <br />existed. She reported on the recent ground opening event for staff at the new PeaceHealth River Bend <br />campus. <br /> <br />Ms. Ortiz noted the upcoming Multi-Cultural Fair at Sheldon High School on August 2 from 3 p.m. to 7 <br />p.m. She referred the council to a recent article from a Spokane newspaper about an outdoor recreational <br />fire that started a wildfire which destroyed homes, and admonished Eugene residents that such fires were <br />illegal in Eugene. <br /> <br />Mr. Zelenka thought the Beam development would be a great asset to the City and that the City had a good <br />partner in Beam. He had confidence in the firm and looked forward to the elimination of the pit adjacent to <br />Centre Court. <br /> <br />Mr. Zelenka also commended the recent Olympic Trials and said he thought the event went off tremen- <br />dously.
