Dog Leash Ordinance - Councilwoman Beal has had a great deal of comment from citizens regard,:,.'..J'
ing the Dog Lease Ordmnance with regard to maximum fines which may be imposed. Public
feeling seems to be that insufficient publicity was given to this Ordinance before action
was taken.

Mrs. Beal moved seconded by Mrs. Hayward that a public hearing be called on the subject of
the dog leash law, and possible amendments and that it be advertised as well as po~sible.

Dr. Purdy said that the Council had heard this ordinance at a public hearing, and that it
had been very well ad~rtised. Apparently the public was not enough interested to appear.
It would be to no avail to rehear the ordinance at this time.

The Council discussed hearings given the ordinance and the consensus was that sufficient
notice had been given, and that the ordinance should be given a trial, with possible future
amendments.

Councilman Teague suggested a letter clarifying that it was not the intent of the ordinance
to send someone to jailor fine them $500.00 should be attached to the ordinance.

Mayor Anderson stated it was the intent of the Council to work with the news media, and
suggested staff make every effort to inform the public concerning the ordinance.

I

A vote was taken on the motion as stated and the motion failed.

Mrs. Hayward moved seconded by Mr. McDonald that Item la be received and placed on file.
