ITEMS FROM MAYOR & COUNCIL, APPOINTMENTS, ANNOUNCEMENTS, AGENDA ADJUSTMENTS
A. Open House at Hult Center for the Performing Arts
Councilor Wooten reported that the October 3rd open house at the Hult Center for
the Performing Arts, jointly sponsored by the City of Eugene and the University
e of Oregon, had been a great success, with over 20,000 people attending.
Ms. Wooten proposed that this be an annual event, serving as a "birthday party"
for the center, and attracting citizens to become familiar with and return to
the center.
Ms. Smith expressed the thanks of the council for Ms. Wooten's efforts in
arranging for the open house. Ms. Wooten said that the success of the event
could be attributed to the good work of City and University staff members and of
the more than 100 volunteers who had worked' on the event. She said that the
cost to the City for the event was $1,500 and asked staff to make arrangements
with the University of Oregon for payment of this cost. Councilors concurred
with the suggestion of Ms. Wooten that this be an annual event. Ms. Wooten
noted that she had written an open letter of thanks for the support of the open
house and that it had been published in the Eugene Register-Guard.
B. Ballot Measure 3
Ms. Miller said she had bumper stickers and buttons expressing opposition to
Ballot Measure 3 to share with councilors and interested members of the public.
She recognized that the City organization and City staff would not be taking a
position on the measure but that the council had gone on record in opposition
to it.
C. Meeting Starting Time
c
Mr. Hamel noted that this council meeting had started very late and urged that
e council meetings start at the time set for the meetings.
MINUTES--Eugene City Council October 13, 1982 Page 1
