Ms. Ehrman said she had already distributed material
on strategic planning to the council. Councilor Bascom stated that she
would also like to present information on her trip to Brazil to the council.
Councilor Obie suggested that time for these reports be scheduled prior
- to the meeting established for interviewing applicants for the vacant coun-
cil position.
B. She reported that the State Department of
Agriculture committee addressing the problem was currently deciding on which
method would be used in the spring. Ms. Wooten requested the council to
forward a letter to the committee encouraging the use of the non-chemical
method if sprays were necessary. Councilor Holmer questioned whether suf-
ficient information was available on which to base that recommendation.
He suggested that the decision be left to the experts. Ms. Wooten responded
that the Lane County Extension agent had presented the necessary information
and that additional information was available through the State Department
of Agriculture. She suggested that the City Manager contact that office and
have the necessary information distributed to those councilors who wished
it. She added that the experts felt the organic method was at least as
effective as the chemical method. Councilor Ehrman urged the council to
~e become involved based on the possible impact on the city. Mayor Kell er
directed the City Manager to keep the council informed. He added that
Councilor-Elect Rutan should also be kept informed.
Minutes--Eugene City Council December 12, 1984 Page 1
