- -
~
M I NUT E S
EUGENE CITY COUNCIL
e September 5, 1979
Adjourned meeting from August 27, 1979, of the City Council of the City of
Eugene, Oregon, was called to order by His Honor Mayor Gus Keller, September 5,
1979, 11:45 a.m., Council Chambers, with the following Councilors present:
Betty Smith, D. W. Hamel, Scott Lieuallen, Brian Obie, Gretchen Miller, and
Emily Schue. Councilors Jack Delay and Eric Haws were absent.
r. ITEMS FROM MAYOR AND COUNCIL, APPOINTMENTS, ANNOUNCEMENTS, AGENDA ADJUSTMENTS
A. Citizens Involvement Committee Meeting--Ms. Schue announced a Citizens
Involvement Committee meeting Thursday night, September 6, at which
time planning processes will be explained.
B. Vacancy on CIC--Ms. Schue suggested opening up applications for
membership on the Citizens Involvement Committee for a longer period
of time with, perhaps, interviews after that. Council concurred and
it was understood applications would be accepted until October 1.
C. Energy Problems--Ms. Schue would like a staff report at some future
e time on what can be done locally on energy problems.
Manager indicated that staff would bring a report to the September 21
Council goals session. It will explore what the City has been doing,
and what other cities are doing as well.
Mr. Lieuallen arrived.
D. Bike Path Between Quaker and Fern Ridge--Mr. Obie asked for a status
report on the bike project, approved last winter, for the area between
Quaker Street and Fern Ridge.
E. Police "Hit List"--Ms. Smith said she is getting quite a number of
calls regarding the recent Police "hit list" that came out in the
paper. The 1 i st has been 1 inked to lima 11 rats. II She wonders what the
City's posture should be in this matter. Manager said that increased
police services have been implemented on the mall, for one thing.
Also, the Mayor has met with downtown business people in an effort to
alleviate problems on the mall. Mr. Lieuallen said he thought comments
made by the DA were highly unprofessional and he feels that, if more
should be done, the Police Chief should let the Council know. It wa s
understood that a report from the Police Chief on the situation would
be requested.
-
9/5/79--1
Jf33
