Councilors Eric Haws and <br /> D. W. Hamel were absent. <br /> Adjourned meetinq of the City Council of the City of Eugene, Oregon, was called <br /> to order by His Honor Mayor Gus Keller. <br /> 1. ITEMS FROM MAYOR & COUNCIL, APPOINTMENTS, ANNOUNCEMENTS, AGENDA ADJUSTMENTS <br /> A. Sacred Heart Nurses' Strike <br /> Mr. Lieuallen stated that this is a serious community issue and he is pleased <br /> that Mayor Keller offered to become involved to help toward resolution of this <br /> issue. ' <br /> Mr. Lieuallen moved, seconded by Ms. Smith, that the council <br /> e support Mayor Keller's endeavor to aid in resolution of the Sacred <br /> Heart nurses' strike. <br /> Ms. Miller said that the council should recognize that there are other medical <br /> care problems in the community besides Medical Services, Inc. She feels that a <br /> Blue Ribbon Citizens' Panel would be appropriate. Mr. Lie~allen noted that this <br /> issue is damaging to health care in several areas, including placing a hardship <br /> on the nurses and being damaging to the reputation of the hospital. Ms. Schue <br /> indicated agreement. <br /> Roll call vote; motion carried unanimously. <br /> B. City Manager Selection Process <br /> Mr. Delay stated that he had received a memo from Greg Page, City Manager's <br /> Office, regarding discussion of the city manager selection process at the <br /> council's goalS session. He noted that the goals session's agenda does not <br /> include this item and asked for clarification. Mayor Keller stated he had told <br /> Mr. Page that this item could be added if time permitted but that other issues <br /> had priority. Mr. Page stated that if the council did not discuss this at the <br /> goals session, materials could be sent out to them.
