Recreation’s Spring Break Camps Offer Variety and Fun
Kids get their choice of physical play, using their imaginations, having an adventure or creating art at the Recreation
Division’s selection of spring break camps. Recreation is offering 10 camps for spring break, Mar. 24 - 28, for children ages
three to 18. In Tots Soccer Academy, experienced coaches will introduce three- to
five-year-old youngsters to the world’s most popular sport. Petersen Barn Preschool
Camp will keep kids, ages three to five, busy with indoor/outdoor games, silly
challenges and plenty of art and craft fun.

It’s “Old School Cool” at KidCity Adventures Camp. Youth in grades K - 5 choose arts,
sports, water games, pool parties and more. Participants in 8th grade, and younger,
will learn passing, shooting, dribbling, and ball handling at Water Polo Camp.

At Construction and Contraption Camp, six- to nine-year-olds will use their intellect
to imagine, design, build and craft crazy contraptions, catapults and castles. Then it’s
Spy vs. Spy Camp as the Alpha Team tracks the Echo Team, where campers make
and break codes and create and complete mental and physical challenges, and hone
tracking and evasion skills.

Youth ages 10 – 15, attending Camp Arrowhead will travel to a wilderness destination to learn survival skills, including
archery, tracking, camouflage, and first aid. Tweens and teens, ages 10 - 15, work together on service projects that earn
them activities such as canoeing, sand-boarding, and hiking in Counselor-In-Training Camp. Spring Break Quest Camp is
Third Annual Eugene Sunday Streets Final Report Available Online
In 2013, the Eugene Sunday Streets program expanded to two events – July 21 in downtown and September 8 in Bethel.
More than 5,200 people came out to enjoy the city’s largest public spaces – its streets – by foot, bicycle, wheelchair, roller
blades, skateboard, and more, along the car-free Sunday Streets routes. View the final report at 2013 Eugene Sunday
Streets Final Report.

Public Works Engineering, with support from many other City
divisions and departments, puts on the Sunday Streets program to
improve the health of Eugene residents, reduce dependence on
motor vehicles and encourage walking and biking, increase
environmental and climate change awareness, improve
neighborhood livability, and create new opportunities for
businesses by recirculating money directly into the local economy.

Eugene Sunday Streets partnered with staff from Library
Recreation and Cultural Services to make Sunday Streets
Downtown a “Summer in the City” event. Sunday Streets
Downtown also partnered with dark30 sports to launch the
TrackTown City Center Mile and Rolf Prima Criterium races by sharing part of the route in the morning and lending
support with route closures.

Each event featured more activity booths and food carts than the previous two years, and the sponsorships from local
businesses and organizations continued to grow. The program achieved its fundraising goal and is looking forward to
continued partnership with community partners to grow the program and make the 2014 events even more successful.
Contributions from sponsorships, vendor fees and individual donors raised $27,000, and another $26,000 worth of
advertising and entertainment was given through in-kind donations of services.

Eugene Sunday Streets 2014 plans to have an open street event in two different neighborhoods next summer during the
fourth year of the program. The events will be located in central Eugene along 5 Avenue and Jefferson Street highlighting
th
the new WJ Skatepark and in the Harlow Neighborhood. For more information, visit www.eugenesundaystreets.org, or
