That measure replaced three older fire station facilities with
two new, more strategically located fire stations. The new buildings more efficiently serve the
community, due to expanding development patterns, population shifts, and changes to the area's
transportation system.

Included in the redeployment bond request was a provision to construct a new emergency
services campus, containing a combined public safety training and fire administration building,
logistics facility, and fire drill field at the center of Eugene's urban services area. The
development of this site and the addition of the new facilities there provided an opportunity to
deliver centralized services to on-duty fire suppression companies and EMS units without
requiring them to travel to remote locations for training.

Redeployment Phase 2 - In 2002, the voters of Eugene passed a general obligation bond to
provide for a new Downtown Fire Station and a live fire training building. This replacement
facility is currently under construction and should be ready for occupancy in the spring of 2005.
The opening of a new Downtown Fire Station will improve response times into several densely
populated and active neighborhoods including West University, College Hill, Jefferson, Friendly,
Downtown, and Mid-town.

In addition, the area south of Station 5 (South Hills), which currently has poor secondary
coverage, will be better served.
