the key word, as in the last two examples, it is logical to use the "from" and "to" streets as the
key descriptors.
6. For REHAB projects, identify the system. Example: Wastewater System Rehabs, 1998.
Summary of "Common" Name Rules
A. Use a as the first word in the description (for alphabetizing purposes).
B. The key word should be (in order of preference):
X the subdivision name;
X the street in which the work is being done;
X the street parallel to and north (or east) of the work site;
X the street perpendicular to and north (or east) of the work site; or
X any street which would be near the north (or east) margins of the work site if extended
to the work area.
BASIC RULES FOR COMPOSING "LEGAL" NAMES
Legal names need to be comprehensive and precise. They need to be considered somewhat
like a meets -and -bounds description in that they must completely include all of the work locations
and work types in the description. They are not alphabetized or used on lists, so the key word
concept is not critical. Some examples:
X Street paving, wastewater lines, storm drains, and sidewalks on Taney Street from 200
feet north o Dove Lane to 100 feet south of Pattison Street.
X Paving, wastewater lines, and storm drains within and adjacent to Anthony Plat.
X Stormwater pipe 100 feet south of Happy Court from 500 feet east of to 200 feet east of
Happy Lane.
X Storm drain between Happy Court and Happy Lane from 500 feet east of to 200 feet
east of Happy Lane.
NEW TERMINOLOGY
Stormwater and wastewater conveyance systems should no longer be referenced with the term
"sewer". The following definitions and terms should be used in all communications, including
construction plans.
WASTEWATER:
OLD: Sanitary sewer
OLD: Sewer pipe
OLD: Sewer line
OLD: Sewer
STORMWATER:
OLD: Storm sewer
OLD: Storm pipe
OLD: Storm line
NEW: Wastewater collection system
NEW: Wastewater pipe
NEW: Wastewater line
NEW: Wastewater collection system
NEW: Stormwater drainage system
NEW: Stormwater pipe
NEW: Stormwater pipe or line
PIDS Manual 2016, Appendix K - 6 K-6-2
