Incorporating comments from September 13, 2007 MPC meeting <br />(as shown by highlighted text) <br />OMPOC Legislative Policy Concepts and Objectives <br />Oregonians need to strategically invest in all modes of transportation programs and infrastructure. In <br />support of this objective, OMPOC should work with the Oregon Transportation Commission/Oregon <br />Department of Transportation, the Oregon Legislature, the Governor’s Office, the business community, <br />local governments and other partners to: <br />stth <br /> [combine 1 & 4 bullets] <br />Identify, advocate and support long-term sustainable transportation funding options for safety, <br />o <br />capacity, operations, maintenance and preservation of Oregon’s state and local transportation <br />infrastructure in a way that provides equitable shares to counties and cities. <br />Identify and support enactment of long-term, sustainable funding options for safety, capacity, <br />o <br />maintenance and preservation of Oregon’s transportation infrastructure. <br />Work with Engage Oregon’s Congressional delegation to support prioritize and secure strategic and <br />o <br />sustainable federal investments in Oregon’s transportation infrastructure. <br />Advocate and support transportation infrastructure investments that address capacity and <br />o <br />connectivity challenges to support a vibrant, competitive and expanding economy. A particular <br />emphasis should be placed on addressing the highway congestion and freight movement challenges <br />that impact Oregon’s economic competitiveness. <br />Advocate and support a transportation funding package that provides equitable shares to <br />o <br />counties and cities and provides resources for the maintenance, preservation and operations of <br />state and local highways and roads. <br />Expand the tools available to local governments to address transportation needs and issues. <br />o <br />Advocate and support efforts to better coordinate land use, transportation and economic <br />o <br />development decisions in order to reduce transportation infrastructure needs. <br />Advocate and support efforts to increase the capacity and efficiency of the public transit system in <br />o <br />Oregon. <br />Advocate and support transportation demand management programs that provide alternatives to <br />o <br />reducesingle occupant vehicle trips thus more efficiently utilizing the capacity of our transportation <br />infrastructure and improving air quality. <br />Advocate and support special transportation and land use programs and funding to address the <br />o <br />changingincreasing needs of seniors, and persons with disabilities, and others with mobility <br />limitations. <br />Assure that local participation in transportation projects of regional or statewide significance is <br />o <br />on the basis of clear and objective policies and standards that are consistently applied. <br />NOTE: Non-highlighted text revisions reflect draft comments/revisions suggested by other Oregon MPOs <br />
