bicycle and pedestrian interests would be pushed to the back. The council needs to tackle this
problem of how people are assessed if they want our older neighborhoods to be user friendly for
non-motorized methods of transport.

I am hoping you have read the alternative proposal submitted by Gary Rayor at the last council
meeting. As the past council representative from our area Gary understands the needs of our
neighborhood. Ultimately, we would like to have a 5 foot uphill bike lane but realize a
compromise might be necessary and I believe Gary's plan offers such a compromise.

I would also encourage each member of the council to walk up Lower Crest drive by Wayne
Morris Ranch before making your decision. At the top look down towards the bottom of the hill
and watch the cars, trucks and buses moving up the narrow lanes and picture a bicycle in that
same lane.

Sincerely;

Lyndell Wilken
3065 Whitbeck Blvd.
CDCT Bike and Pedestrian Representative

From: Alec Bentley [mailto:alecbentley@hotmail.com]
Sent: Sunday, February 24, 2008 11:10 AM
To: *Eugene Mayor and City Council
Subject: Bike Lanes

Dear Mayor Piercy and the Eugene City Council,

I urge you with all of my love for Eugene to include bike lanes as part of the street improvement
program for the Morse Ranch area of our beautiful City.

I am confident that any cost benefit / value analysis would demonstrate that bike lanes are good
value as they will enhance the lives of all residents and visitors to Eugene in many ways.

Bike lanes will encourage residents and visitors of all ages to ride bikes rather than take some
form of motorized transportation. This will lower pollution, facilitate quieter neighborhoods, help to
improve the physical and mental health of the riders, cause less delays for motorists. Perhaps
most importantly it will reduce the number of accidents between vehicles' and bike riders.

The major reason most potential bike riders choose to take motorized transportation rather than
ride their bike is their concern for their own or their children's safety. The more safe bike routes
that are available to and from a planned destinations the more people will use their bikes.

Please find a way to include at least uphill bike lanes in the Morse Ranch area and please
continue to increase the miles of bike lanes in Eugene at the fastest possible rate.

Thank you for your consideration for the expansion of bike lanes throughout Eugene.

Alec Bentley
Eugene

From: Sara Burant [mailto:kitsatoo@hotmail.com]
Sent: Sunday, February 24, 2008 2:09 PM
- 11 -
Crest Drive CSS Design Recommendation Public Testimony 2/14/08 through 4/8/08
