ATTACHMENT B <br /> <br />M I N U T E S <br /> <br /> <br />Eugene City Council <br />Work Session <br />McNutt Room—City Hall <br />777 Pearl Street—Eugene, Oregon <br /> <br /> November 26, 2007 <br /> 5:30 p.m. <br /> <br />COUNCILORS PRESENT: Andrea Ortiz, Chris Pryor, Betty Taylor, Bonny Bettman, George Poling, <br />Mike Clark, Alan Zelenka, Jennifer Solomon. <br /> <br /> <br />Her Honor Mayor Kitty Piercy called the meeting of the Eugene City Council to order. <br /> <br /> <br />A. COMMITTEE REPORTS AND ITEMS OF INTEREST FROM MAYOR, CITY <br />COUNCIL AND CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />Mayor Piercy shared a letter from visitors from Eugene Sister City, Kakegawa, Japan, expressing thanks for <br />the hospitality shown during their recent visit. She announced that Broadway at Willamette Street had <br />opened with decorative concrete repairs. <br /> <br />Mr. Pryor reported that the West Eugene Collaborative (WEC), in which both Lane Transit District (LTD) <br />and the City were involved, had met on November 20, 2007, to continue with its organizational and work <br />plan development. <br /> <br />Mr. Zelenka announced that the University of Oregon basketball arena planning process had begun. He said <br />the university was beginning to solicit input from impacted neighborhoods and was developing a process that <br />would consider neighborhood concerns. He asked the council to postpone action on the West Broadway <br />project, as he would be unable to attend the November 27, 2007, meeting. <br /> <br />Mr. Clark reported on his attendance at an Oregon Toxics Alliance town meeting on field burning. He said <br />the Human Right Commission (HRC) Accessibility Subcommittee had been working on the issue of taxis <br />and he hoped to see a solution in the form of an ordinance amendment come before the council. He was <br />pleased with the results of a recent HRC process retreat. He appreciated a presentation by the Eugene <br />Police Department on a very successful homeless shelter and program in Canada and he had recommended a <br />presentation to the Mayor's Blue Ribbon Committee on Homelessness. <br /> <br />Ms. Taylor reported on her attendance at a National League of Cities (NLC) conference in New Orleans and <br />encouraged people to visit that city. She said the NLC's Human Development Steering Committee had <br />reaffirmed its interest in immigration. She said an historic preservation workshop discussed federal tax <br />breaks for remodeling of historic buildings and she had seen several good examples of redevelopment. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />MINUTES—Eugene City Council November 26, 2007 Page 1 <br /> Work Session <br />
