~ ~i <br />ORDINANCE N0. 8715 _ <br />An ordinance providing for the registration, licensing, operation, <br />and equipment of bicycles within the city limits of the City of Eugene, Oregon <br />fixing penalty for violation thereof and repealing all other ordinances or <br />parts of ordinances in conflict herewith. <br />T'r~ CI 1'Y OF EUGENE DOES, ORDAIN AS FOLLO~F~S: <br />Section 1. It shall be unlawful f or• any person to operate or use a <br />bicycle, propelled ti~~holly or in part by muscular power upon any of the streets, <br />alleys or public high~;fays of the City of Eugene without first obtaining from the <br />Police Department a license therefor. <br />Section 2. `The Police Department is hereby authorized and directed <br />to issue, upon written application, bicycle licenses which shall be f'or the <br />current year of 1942, to and including the 31st day of December, 1942, and <br />thereaftez° said licenses shall issue for tYie current year commencing vaith the <br />first day of January of each calendar year and ending with the 31st day of <br />December of each year. Said licenses vahen issued shall entitle the licensee to <br />opez•ate such bicycle for which said licerise has been issued upon the streets, <br />alleys and public highways, exclusive of the sidewalks, in the city of Eugene <br />excepting as hereinafter provided. <br />;.> Section 3. The City of Eugene shall provide each year metallic license <br />plates which shall be issued only to owners oi' bicycles, together vaith a <br />registration card, all to be issued~by the Chief of Police or assistaritts <br />designated by him. The metallic license plates and registration cards are to <br />have numbers stamped thereon in numerical order beginning with number one, <br />indicating the year- for v~lhich the same are issued and the letter EBL stamped <br />thereon; such metallic license plates shall be suitable for attachment upon the <br />frames of bicycles, at a place designated by the Police Department, and it shall <br />be tiie duty of the Police Department to attacri one such metallic license plate <br />to the frame of each bicycle and to issue a corresponding re~istr•ation card to <br />the licensee upon the payment of the license fee ®i' twenty-five (25} cents. <br />. Such metallic license plate shall rerr:ain attached during the existence of such <br />license. ~1'he Police Department shall also keep a record of the date of issue <br />and number of such license and to whom issued. <br />Section 4. No person shall ride or• operate any bicycle upan any street, <br />alley, or public place within the corporate limits of the City of Eugene during <br />~ the period from a half hour before sunset to a half hour before suns°ise, and all <br />.times when fog or other atmospheric conditions render the operation os: said <br />bicycle dangerous to tr•az`'fic or the use of the streets, or at any othez.• time when <br />there is not sufficient light to render clearly discez•nible any pez•son on the <br />streets a distance of two hundred feet ahead without having a lighted lamp <br />I~ <br /> <br />
