<br />385 <br />Oi~DINAPICE N0. g~7d <br />An ordinance adopting specifications for concrete sidewalks and curbings in the City <br />of Eugene. <br />The City of Eugene Does Ordain as Follows: <br />Specifications: <br />Permits. Permits must be secured before commencing to build any sidewalk. Vrhen ready <br />to pour, the Engineering Department must be notified, forms must be checked and an inspector <br />must be on the job while placing of concrete continues. <br />Section 1. That all concrete sidewalks and curbings hereafter constrt.!cted in the City <br />of Eugene, shall be constructed according to the follo~rring specifications: <br />Concrete sidewalks shall be five (5) feet in width and four (1.G) ir_ches in thickness <br />unless otherwise specified, and shall conform accurately to the lines and grades given <br />by the City Engineer; a.nd shall be constructed as follows: <br />The sub-soil shall be excavated to a depth of four (1t) inches belo~rT the finished grade, <br />and thoroughly settled and compressed by wetting, tamping or rolling. <br />If any filling is necessary it shall be made of such width and v~rith such side slopes <br />as may be shown on the plans or as may, in the judgment of the City Engineer, be required <br />to maintain solid and permanent sidewalks. A11 embankments under vralks shall be made of <br />suitable material, spread in la}~ers not exceeding six inches in thickness. Each layer shall <br />be thoroughly flushed with v~rater and tamped and rolled until a hard unyelding surface is <br />obtained and to the satisfaction of the City Engineer. Adobe soil shall be covered with <br />a layer of pea gravel or sand. Emban~;ments must extend one foot from the outside edge of <br />the surface of the finished walk and. have a slope of not less t han 12 to 1. <br />?~ti'henever, in the judgment of the City Engineer, the original ground under any em- <br />bankment is too soft or otherwise unsuitable to remain under the walk, ~.t must be ex- <br />cavated to such depth as di ratted, ant filled in -~rith suitable material, ta:~pa ~ ~,.,,d <br />watered, in layers as specified to the satisfaction of the Cii;,y Engineer. <br />The contractor shall provide forms of such shape and dimensions as may be required. <br />They shall be made of no+., less than two inch (2~~) by four inch (!~~-) surfaced l~unber. The <br />cost of furnishing and setting the forms, must be included in the Price bid for concrete <br />sidewalks. A!'ter the forms a.re set accurately to the grades and slopes given, the foundation <br />shall be brought to the exact sub-grade required and v~~ell wetted and smoothed dovm just <br />before placing the concrete. <br />Concrete shall be deposited in the forms in sufficient quantity so that in tamping, <br />the mortar willt~ brought to the surface and in tamping will be effective through the <br />concrete. Concrete shall be tamped with a tamper of sufficient ~nreic~tht and des5_gn to bring <br />the mortar tc the surface and drive the rock down in order that the finish will be true and <br />free from rocks showing on the surface. ~r'hen concrete has been tamped, it shall be care- <br />fully brought to the f~ nished grade by screeding and floating. <br />
