sss <br />"V" shaped grooves one-quarter of an inch (1~1t) in depth shall then be made with a suitable <br />tool, dividing the sidevralk into blocks five feet (5-) square, or as the City Engineer may <br />direct. The cement coating shall be roughened by finishing vrith a floor brush or in such <br />manner as the City Engineer may specify. <br />At such points as may be directed by the City Engineer, and which shall be approximately <br />sixty (EO) feet apart, all concrete sidewalks shall have a joint, extending entirely through <br />the concrete. This joint shall be one-quarter (1/1~~~) by four is~ches (1~~') asphalt composition <br />or c ark . <br />When the sidewalk is completed, it shall b e covered vrith such material as may be <br />directed and kept moist by sprinkling for at least one week. The sprinkling shall be done <br />as often as may be necessary to keep the sidewalk constantly moist. <br />Cement. All cement used on the work shall conform to ASTlt4 Specification C-150-1t2, <br />dry and free from all lumps and foreign material, delivered on the ground in the original <br />packages, in good condition, properly covered and protected from rain and dampness. <br />It shall be delivered on the work in advance, in such quantities as to afford the <br />engineer an opportunity of making tests before the cement shall be used. <br />In addition to the tests above specified, all cement used on this work shall be <br />subjected to such tests as may be necessary to determine whether or not the cemen t <br />possesses the necessary qualiti_es,~for the particular work for which it is intended. Should <br />there be discovered at any time, any characteristics in an;r cement being used that are <br />objectionable, in this work, or shculd the cement fail to make good concrete or mortar, <br />the further use of cement of the same brand in this work shall b e prohibited. <br />Sand. All sand used on the work in. the mixture of cement mortar shall be furnishe d <br />by the contractor, and shall be of the best quality available. <br />It shall be clean, screened, coarse and sharp, free from loam, clay, vegetable matter, <br />or other foreign substances, and satisfactory to the City Engineer. <br />Gravel. The gravel used on the work shall be thoroughly washed until free from loam, <br />clay or earthly particles. Concrete sidevralk and curb shall be composed cne (1) part cement, <br />two and one-quarter ( 2 1/!~ ) parts. sand, four and one-quarter (1~ 1/Lt) parts: of gravel. <br />A sack of cement, 91~ lbs. shall be taken as one (1) cubic foot. One cubic yard of concrete <br />shall contain not less than 5 sacks of cement. Materials shall be mixed in a batch mixer <br />for not less than one minute. All batches containing an excess of water will be rejected. <br />Ready mix-Concrete.. All ready-mix concrete delivered to the job shall be accompanied <br />by a certificate containing the follov~ring information: Name of Compan~r, Address, Time load <br />Left plant, Time received at job, Number of cubic yards, ti`dater gallons, Cement lbs., Sand <br />lbs., Gravel lbs., Brand of Cement. Any load not accompanied by such certificate will be <br />rejected. <br />The contractor will be required to starrip his name in letters from one (1) to two (2) <br />inches high and one-quarter of an inch deep, twide in each block on each side of street, and <br /> <br />
